both times, the radios worked fine for about 3-4 months and they start working intermittently for a day or two, then nothing.

I would have expected better from Midland, but guess everything is made in China and who knows on QC. Hope you have better luck with the RR.

I am a big fan of Rugged Radios. I had several over the years when I was rolling in the Rzr. I have a HAM in my rig now, but I still purchase some stuff from Rugged. I used their Bronco Radio mount that goes onto the passenger side mirror housing.

They are a really good company and I have never had an issue with the radios.
