Weboost issue in a 2 door

Installed the Weboost in the 2 door and I'm getting slower upload and download speeds with it on. It's got a sold green light, so it says it's good, but I'm wondering if the 2 door is too short to get good separation from the two antennas. I have the antenna mounted on a spare tire mount and the inside antenna mounted near the grab handle on the console.

Anyone have a Weboost in a 2 door and what are your results? Where are your antennas mounted?

That a 4g or 5g unit? If it’s 4g it would explain the slower speeds. Or if it’s choosing 4g over 5g.

It's set to 5G auto, but was showing LTE, so, I don't know enough to know what that is if you mean the phone. The Weboost is new and is supposed to work with 5G.

5G could give people faster speeds, but the cell phone/ISPs are using it to put more people on at mediocre speeds. I'd turn 5G off if possible and double check.

I put one in my truck and it sucked and swapped to several antennas and it never helped and probably made it worse. I ended up turning it off in the end. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm wondering if I just have too good a signal to begin with. I'll try to move the indoor antenna but I can't get it much farther away. Maybe drive out to where I lose signal and see how it works there.

I've seen some videos showing the phone speed slower or same when there is good cell signal to start. When there was low signal it improved speed going through the signal amplifier (weBoost). I'd try it somewhere you have low signal and see if that makes a difference.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking may be the issue. I’m going to drive out in the the National Forest Monday and try it in multiple places that my phone normally goes in and out of service. That’s really the area I bought it for and won’t use it when I have a decent signal.

The 5g signal boost on it is misleading. 5g has the shortest range of all the bands. It likes to default to lte or 4g most of the time. Got them at a couple houses. That’s why I was asking. Now when 3g was still available, talk range on that was insane if it went into 3g mode. For internet 3g was unusable, 4g slow, 5g normal but have to have excellent service. For in and out service it should help with calls. Wouldn’t hold my breath for internet.

I usually have 2 phones when I go out. Att and a Verizon. That covers me for most situations. WiFi on the bronco is damn impressive for connection I’ve noticed too. That actually surprised me.

Did a little testing with my old school flip phone and an ipad mini. An interesting thing I noticed is with the Weboost in my driveway, my ipad displayed 5G. It has only ever displayed LTE at home and never 5G, so that's got to be a good sign. Download speeds were considerably faster with the Weboost, upload speed was a little faster.

On the road into the National Forest, I really couldn't tell if I was getting a signal more often with it, but what I did notice is without it my internet speed was too slow to even get the test to run at times and looking at email was impossible. With the Weboost, the speed was acceptable and I was able to look at all my email. Downloading pictures on B6G was not really doable, but reading threads was.

On my phone, I seemed to gain about 5 dBm of service. Not much, but could be the difference between making a call or not being able to connect.

Not earth shattering performance, but what I think it will allow is the ability to do more in those marginal areas. Checking email and other internet tasks that may not be ideal but would not be possible without it.

Are you using just the stub antenna outside? Curious if you had one of the taller (few feet high, like an old CB antenna) flexible mounts if it would work better. On an RV forum they always use extended poles to get 12-15' and claim to have better service with it.

What would be ideal is a folding mount on a roof rack so when you deployed it you could get several more feet of clearance. I'm using the smallest extension as I need it to not get caught up in low overhanging limbs. I guess if I was camping taking along the other extensions and using while parked would be good.
