Is that really paint runs or is it goopy seam sealer that's been painted? Either way, it's getting hidden by rock sliders.

My dealer verified that many of the mannequins are pre-production models (my dealer has a Wildtrak with leather front seats and cloth rear). I'd bank on that being a pre-production build that is essentially a scrap component.

Still rough to look at... That dealer should do some body clean up....

This sort of finish is very common body on frame vehicles. My Toyota’s and Chevrolet were similar.

This has come up a few times. My 2008 Ranger looks exactly the same as this. So does my wife's 2021 4Runner. It's especially noticeable on the taller 4Runner which has no running boards or rails.

Take a look at other trucks.... You'll see something similar.
It's sloppy work.
My 5th gen 4Runner did not look like this, I guess I got lucky.
QC on all mass produced is hit or miss.

To be honest, the paint does not bother me. The pinch welds and mounting holes do however give it an unfinished appearance. Given these holes are already there, it would seem like a really easy place to put some piece of trimwork, maybe something that matched the plastic on the fenders. On the OBX, something to match the step. Hopefully the aftermarket will come up with something. Doesn't change my overall opinion in the least though, amazing truck.
Our old explorer had a big slab of MIC plastic covering up the pinch seam and frame.

My 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro looks just like this. I just stepped out to take pictures but they don’t show up well at night. Honestly surprised me when I first noticed it, but I don’t see it as a big deal. Very unnoticeable to most people, and I off-road the truck so it’s often dirty anyways.

Fair.... I only looked on my phone. It looks worse than I initially thought.

My 4Runner definitely looks better. My Ranger is pretty rough looking.

Yeah, that's different. That's just the rubberized (?) coating they apply to the rocker panels for additional protection, then they paint over it. So you get that pebbled texture. That's totally expected and acceptable.

What I'm talking about is dried paint runs that dripped from the bottom edge. I really should have taken a closeup photo. Here it is enlarged if that's any help. It stands out like a sore thumb in light-colored paint contrasted against the black side steps.

Looks like bed liner! 🤣

That’s about the same amount of armor as an umbrella in a hurricane.

Not the seam itself but the fact the paint is dripping off it like a candle.
The pinch welds also have sealer applied which is often a messy look. Plus once paint is applied it often doesn't look very attractive. Btw it's an industry standard practice. Go look at other brands and you might find similar results. People have got to remember these are mass produced vehicles!

I never said it would work for armor but it may work for the folks that don't like the looks of their ugly pinch welds and such.

It’s a pinch weld, and all the competitors have the exact same thing
