Hi all!

I went cheap for a new bumper and I’m paying for it. In shipping the box broke and there are some scratches, scuffs and cosmetic issues once I received it.

I just want it to look uniform, so I’m guessing I won’t get lucky in being able to spot paint the problem areas and it will need a full coat to look ‘right’. What kind/type/brand of paint do I need to look for? Am I going to be able to find the paint in a rattle can as opposed to something that needs a sprayer?

Would I be better off taking it to a body shop? If so what price range would be reasonable to expect?

Thanks!

Got any pics of the damage? I was able to touch up my OEM modular bumper and it looks pretty good, but of course it depends how bad yours is.

I know it’s not terrible , but it’s going to bother me, and I’m sure it’s going to be easier to paint/touch up while off my Bronco.

The best match for powder coat I’ve found is Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating. Cut a circle or oval in a piece of cardboard and hold it a few inches (2-3) away from the item. Then spray paint using the recommended distance from the item (10-12 with Rustoleum).
This will give you feathered edges.
Practice on a sample first and adjust the distance from cardboard to target and spray can to target until you’re happy with the feathering.

Must be a grocery getter, 4dr... 🤣

I have sprayed all my aftermarket metal parts with Bed Liner. The powder coating these days are garbage!!!

Spray can only! Brush or roller will have too much grit / texture to it.

It does not match powder coatings, it a proper black n no rust...

Good luck!!!

From a similar thread a while back they provided a pretty good match for the Ford Modular bumper, etc. It is a Rustoleum 'Rugged Black' Custom Lacquer in a rattle can. I had to order it on Amazon, couldn't find it at Lowes:) I used it to touch up my skid plate after some creative grinding and it is a good match. It looks really thick when you first spray it on but it conforms well once it dries. As to whether you'll have to paint it all, you'll probably just have to try on an 'inconspicuous spot' (as the paint manufacturers say) and see if the touchup is good enough.

If you are going to have someone powder coat the bumper, I've been using 'Black Diamond' powder from Prismatic powders BLACK DIAMOND | UTS-1527 | Prismatic Powders It is a perfect match but you'll probably want to strip the bumper first....... a lot of work.

Taking it to a body shop could get pricey. Maybe try the spray can method first? I used Rustoleum on my skid plate and it turned out okay, but your mileage may vary.
