Good Afternoon! For the past week Marengo has been at the spa getting PPF/Tint, so I took advantage of the Grille being removed to do a gloss delete and replace the letters. This was my first dip of any kind, so I was surprised with a good outcome. It isn't without flaws, but for most folks, I would have to point them out.

I used the Grill/Mirror/Trim Blackout Kit from Dip Your Car in the Shadow Black Satin. I was pleased with the product itself except that I had one can go haywire and would drip all over the place when I would spray (the cause of the small flaws). I ended up with about 10 coats with the loss of the one can. I finished with two coats of Dip Coat and Oracle Letters with Tufskinz Overlays.

I masked the letter locations due to concerns of adhesion of the new letters; as luck would have it, the Blue tape that comes with the kit is exactly the right width for those areas. I just ran one continuous strip across, flipped it over and removed between the letters with an exacto. Removal of the tape went better than expected with little to no 'pull' of the dip. Go slow, and have your exacto handy to free it up at the corners and the rest pulled clean as a whistle. will post pics of the grille installed upon return of the rest of the truck! lol Cheers!

Update: finally got my truck back and installed the grille. love the outcome; now we'll just see how well it holds up!

UPDATE: DON'T BOTHER WITH HYPERDIP!!

One road trip and one wash and this CRAP is failing. I wouldn't be so disappointed if I didn't have to now remove/rewire/re-adhesive my Oracle letters to install another solution. Super disappointed. I followed the install to the letter. it just won't cut it. you'll notice in one photo, it appears that heat is melting it away. Hope this keeps you all from the same anguish. cheers.

Nice. Is it pretty easy to pull the grill off? I would like to black-out the "BRONCO" upon arrival.

Very nice. I think a gloss delete on the grill and a matte wrap would make me pretty happy! cannot wait to see pics of it on the truck.

Super easy. There’s plenty of videos, but it’s a few bolts and then pops right off. If you have camera you have to unplug the camera and washer line, but that’s it. You’d be surprised how easily it comes off.

Thanks for posting this! I’ve been considering painting my Badlands grille black. I really like the satin and might do that instead of gloss.
What made you pick plastidip versus spray paint?

Looks great!! I'm personally not a fan of piano black trim of any kind.

Nice work! Glad to see this as i just ordered a 6 pack of hyper piano (gloss) black today to do my BB grill (including letters) and silver SAS wheel rings.

$100 and no scratch prep/just clean & degrease makes alot more sense to me than buying new rings or grill or taking to powdercoat/body shop

Gloss is supposed to be more challenging so I'll post my results for the judging panel

Quite honestly, because of it’s ‘reversability’. Hopefully, it will last a while, but this option allowed me to see if i liked it without full commitment.
