I learned that @Off The Grind doesn't know the difference between a bronze bushing and bearing. He also didn't put any sealant on his aftermarket housing so he can't blame Icon.

Hack mechanic problems...

I did put sealant on it just didn’t show it. Bearing and bushings are commonly called one another. The bushing or bearing I was referring to look similar to a rod bearing no?

Anyways, easy to sound tough behind a keyboard. Feel free to jump off a bridge

So you staged this? Or did you not put sealant on? I'm not hiding behind a keyboard? This is straight up failure to properly install parts. This is a forum please feel free to discuss!

The sealant stayed on the cast aluminum, assuming because it’s more porous than billet aluminum. So not staged, it’s all there. I had to scrap off the sealant from the rack. Also didn’t show that because again was not the point

Dudes been a Icon fan boy tough guy from the start of this thread. Why the animosity? From other posts on this forum @Snacktime is clearly experienced and knowledgeable but damn dude.

It is the point, your complaining about water inside the rack. The water froze and the rack stopped working. It looks like you scrapped the factory white sealant off and never put new sealant on. Your either staging your footage or you didn't seal a housing. Either way its your image and your video.

Did you not see the shitty boots? it's obviously from that. @Off The Grind admits he should of questioned it. Jesus, lets just look at what we can learn from this instead of calling people names.

Yes Icon has shitty boots, that is pretty much the consensus.

You should be after @Off The Grind for name calling. All he has done is name calling? I will rephrase my name calling to "does not read instructions well".

You can't blame the Icon boots, someone failed to put the tie rod side boot clamps on. Water freezes, water in the rack will freeze. Self inflicted.
I disagree, the boots shipped from Icon did not allow any type of clamp to hold them in place. Icon shipped the OP the wrong boots. Yes the OP was wrong to assume they were meant to be that way. But, bottom line, they shipped the wrong boots.
Also not good to hear that Icon had still not responded to any of his e-mails, nor was he able to locate a phone number to call them. That is just poor customer service.

Tensions are pretty high so at the risk of getting my head chewed off, I’m still going to ask: @LanceIto did you drive through the same places (or at least enough places to get water into your rack) as @Off The Grind? I believe you’re still running a stock rack? So I’m just trying to figure out if I have a new problem to worry about with my steering rack. This isn’t Ford’s first steering rack (by a long shot) so I think they’ve seen conditions like this before on other vehicles.

You have nothing to worry about. Some people have told me that my Bronco is Not a "Boat" ..... As long as your boots are clamped and in good condition you are good to go.

The issue is how did water get into the housing. Unless you have a boot problem (you can tear a boot while off roading) or made a mistake upgrading the rack housing, you'll not have an issue. I think this issue really comes down to inexperience in upgrading the rack, however that affected the final outcome.

You are coming at him pretty hard. This is also low stakes AFAICT.
Didn't realize it came off that way. I guess I view this as the same as the other Youtubers not try to show the actual defect but some other product. I also tend to view youtubers at not real people and I go on the attack.

@NorthShoreBronco is also a Rough Country sponsored, lets not look past his person involvement and some Rough Country Tie Rods in said video that is being shown here for views. So me being accused of being an Icon lover is a bit much, I only run their tie rods I paid for. I will admit really like @Dusty videos and he is the reason I bought a bronco (his video of a 2 door on 35s wheeling before he had Icon ties).

I also just wanted to say that I appreciate @Off The Grind for taking responsibility for his part and admitting he got some stuff wrong. We all make mistakes and some of the most valuable things I’ve learned were because I screwed up. I think the cinematography in your videos is top notch. As a side note, it looks like you got a lot of views
