Buy a battery operated string of lights and don't give it another thought ...
Unless you need a project, in which case, have at it.

There will be some that flash with blinkers, others will come on only with brakes, and the rest will work as normal. EDIT: a handful won’t work at all!! Love it!!

Brown wire is constant power while vehicle lights are on.

Ton of cheap USB powered lights on Amazon. Color changing, flashing. The whole 9 yards.

There's a power outlet near the light in the Passenger rear panel. You could connect something there and run the wire under the window to the spare tire location. That's probably the easiest way, but you would have to remember to unplug it - it stays on for about 20-30 minutes after shutdown.
Or change the timeout via forscan.

That said - easiest way would be the 12V power point in the rear cargo area, just close the glass/softtop on the wire.
I believe this is the best way, and what I have been doing for 3 years now. Not on the tire, but the roof rack. Used an extension cord from the 110 plug and leading to the rear. Plug the lights in in, near the back, closing the glass over the very thin wire.

Doesnt come on with remote start, but once you hit the start button they come in in about 2-3 seconds. They turn off when the vehicle is turned off. Got a 28ft strand of lights. I can get more detailed pics if anyone wants them. Morimoto headlights up front, that are controlled by an app to change the color. Going to do my wife's Defender this weekend.

Great idea, thanks! I was looking at various wreaths and lights on Amazon, tempted, and asking myself, "Do I really need to buy this?" But I do have various light strands of different lengths I rarely use. Problem solved with current inventory, thanks!
Your house looks pretty good, too. Most properties in my student neighborhood are investor-owned, so I'm one of a very few who put them out.

I have lights wrapped around my spare. I took an extension cord, plugged it into the plugin on the center counsel. It only comes on when running. Ran the cord under the floor mats and seats. I also have lights above my shade screen (one of those square lights for bushes). Plug them both in and the Christmas lights around my tire go between my door and top. The lights on my tire are all colors. Never been pulled over!

Just did this simple setup today. $12 9 ft garland with lights from Home Depot plus a spare extension cord and ribbon I had lying around the house
