I was recently installing a dash cam on the 2026 and thought I would snap a couple photos to show what the grab handle looks like taken apart and removed.

There are (2) T20 screws that hold a rubber cover (not shown). Beneath that is a plastic frame held to the roll bare with (2) T40 screws. Although it is made of plastic, the handle does feel quite sturdy.

The A pillar trim has the two cut outs for the handle to pass through and mount to the roll bar. The roll bar has two threaded inserts and another hole for indexing the handle.

I hav SAS with no side step. I use this handle all the time, particularly in narrow parking spaces. 5' 9" no head knock yet. Hard to bump your head on something your holding on to.

If someone wanted to delete these, after market, braided rope with some DIY mounts or a couple plugs will be good alternatives.

Okay but now for the money question - can they be retrofit into an older one? I get that the mounting holes in the steel aren't there (that can be addressed), but does all the plastic swap over for a clean install look?

The A pillar trim has cutouts, so the structural part of the handle has direct contact to the roll bar. The trim is unique to older models in that it has contours and holes to accommodate the grab handle for a cleaner look. You will likely want to replace the A pillar trim, assuming it fits older MY and doesn't get in the way of air bags.

I can remove the handle again this evening and pop closer photo of the trim.

I see Ford has not fixed the bulge in the rubber window seal. I gained the bulge when they fixed the rattling widow.

It does that when it isn't positioned correctly. All you need to do is readjust the weatherstrip.

I can imagine that some aftermarket suppliers will come up with nicer grab handles maybe with embedded color to match accents and others will have a cap that eliminates the handle by covering the attachment points.

Mine didn’t do until they changed it. Only way to remove it is to pull the trim lower on the pillar. Except

I didn’t have the issue until Ford fixed the floppy windows. If I move the trim to get rid of the bulge, it creates a gap in the small round part of the trim that seals the very edge of the glass on the exterior at the front upper corner of the glass. That looks worse.

Chicks dig the bulge. Rock stars use cucumbers, but real men use rubber window seal.
