What we were told was water and fire damage and gvmt shutdown slowing repairs.
Our rich mountain road run was cut short due to bear attacks this morning.
Bear attacks??

These bears must be Jeep guys.... figures. 😏
Just a point of clarification on the "bear attack". There wasn't. There were 2 separate, unrelated incidents that lead to Cades Cove entrance being shut down.

The one referred to as a "bear attack" wasn't. The bear was exhibiting human conditioned behavior from visitor's baiting the bear with food. It was tranquilized, carried out of the brambles, put in the bear trap, and then relocated. It is now tagged, collared, and had a tooth removed. It is the first "strike" for the bear. Hopefully, it stays away from humans in the future. Second strike is euthanasia. Remember folks, a fed bear is a dead bear. Selfish visitors and their actions have impacted this bear.

The other incident was an accident between a vehicle and a bicyclist. The bicyclist was injured and required medical evac.

Another typical day in East Tennessee 😳. Hopefully the bicyclist will be ok.

wonder if Yogi lost his picnic basket? 😂

Hope so too. But the bicyclist was likely at fault. There were observers that said they were cutting in front/around vehicles instead of just cycling parallel with vehicles.

Starting May 1st, vehicle free Weds. start.

I suspect the park service will have to begin managing the volume of vehicles that enter Cades Cove. Right now, it is a free-for-all. In the future, I can see where they have a sensor at the exit whereas staff can admit one vehicle for every one that leaves capped at a maximum.

And with the new law passed in TN regarding the penalty to feeding bears (July 1st), there will be plenty of spectators who witness such behavior to record such offenses and turn the footage over to authorities.

Found that out later, we got turned away at the gate and we're told the bear attack story. 🤦

I hate people. Remember the story I shared a few years back about the cub on Blue Ridge Parkway. Shut down 5 miles for over a month.

Leave the bears alone. I enjoyed seeing 4 bears last year at Super Cel, but at a distance.

Yeah. I live here. It’s always a problem. It’s no fun going to Cades Cove after school lets out. The no vehicle Wednesday has been a success in the past. My daughter rides there often on Wednesday

Jim said he pre-ran the run scheduled for SCE.

It doesn't surprise me if GSMNP opted to keep it closed. Usually it opens when Rich Mtn. does. But with the increased traffic from SCE and Smoky Mtn Jeep Club (they do an annual run down Parsons in April), GSMNP might have opted to keep it closed as many treat Parsons as an offroad Baja run across the many splash pads causing undue erosion where the dirt meets the concrete. SMJC has been the biggest offenders.
Like clock-work, Parsons opens on May 1st and SMJC has their ride May 2nd.
