I can't count the number of Jeeps around here that are. And now that Broncos are starting to become more popular, I'm starting to see it on some of those too, sadly.

- Balding front tires showing obvious alignment issues because they've never been rotated
- Balding tires in general (almost always KO2s for some reason), but brand new spare still has the new tire nubs
- Different brand/size spare tire, because it's never been rotated in

I mean, there is no requirement to do a 5-tire rotation, by any means. But it makes a lot of sense when you have a full sized spare hanging out over the tailgate - why would you not use it? The only good reason I can think of for just doing 4-tire is because you did a spare tire delete and just don't have 5 any longer.
Lol balding KO2s is so real on any 4x4. The first layer of tread is soft and works well in the wet and snow and that wears pretty quick. Once that's gone the remainder of the tread is rock hard so people run it for years and years, regardless of whether the tire should be aged out. Hell, I still see people post pictures and people driving on KOs on the street, and those haven't been produced since before 2015.

Next time they want to argue, let them do the 4 tire, then go home, swap the spare to the back right position, then find a new tire shop. 1/2 beer job

Now try telling them you want a 5-tire rotation on a pickup with a fullsize spare under the bed. I would at least crane it down for them and have it loose in the bed, not trying to waste anyone's time.

Last August I had my 5 tires rotated when I got my oil changed at the local Valvoline service center. Yesterday I went in for another rotation. About 7500 apart. The techs were so confused. Like, why would I want this? I explained why. They service lots of jeeps and broncos… but the last time they did a 5 tire rotation was mine last August. A tech was trying to (very politely) convince me otherwise... they didn't get it. Longer life span, even tire wear etc.
I just replaced my tires largely because they were cupping really bad and getting very loud. I blame myself for not rotating them at every oil change, but being directional tires, to properly rotate them, especially with a spare rotated in, you need to dismount and flip them on the rim at some point. Needless to say, I did not buy directional tires this time and I will rotate them more often. Plus we flat tow our bronco as many miles as we drive it and I decided to start using my trailer when I can because trailer tires are much cheaper than 37’s. 26k miles on the clock, the tires probably had over 36k miles on them. Still lots of tread left but boy did they get loud and start vibrating.

So someone please post up your favorite 5-tire rotation sequence so I can screen shot and save it. Yes I could Google it, but since we’re on the subject, might as well add it to the thread. Hell we may even argue about it lol.

Spare -> RR -> RF -> LR -> LF (do oil change here to get at the oil filter on 2.3)

Maybe I'm not understanding. If doing a 5-tire rotation, you won't need to put the truck on stands. Jack up one corner, replace that tire with the spare, drop that corner, jack up the next corner, replace that tire with the one you just took off, lower it and jack up the next corner.... and so on.

Never need to have more than one corner off the ground at one time.
I'm saying that even when I do just a 4 tire rotation on a car (e.g. my Mustang), I use the spare tire to avoid having to put the whole car on stands. Very similarly to a 5 tire rotation, except of course you don't leave the spare on. Replace the LF with the spare, move the LF to the RR, replace the spare at LF with the RR, repeat for the other corners.

Sadly my oil change schedule doesn't match up with my tire rotation schedule or I would definitely do that for my 2.3. I have a pretty good system for draining it without getting oil everywhere but it's a PITA to get it back on and be sure I'm not getting dirt on/inside the filter/housing trying to shove it through the wheel well or coming up from the bottom. Don't need Moab sand in my engine block!

I recently learned to appreciate Subaru's approach to oil filters. They are under the hood with the filter housing pointing up making them really easy to deal with.

I did a spare tire delete and I still do a DIY 5 tire rotation every 3000 miles (spare is in the garage)... at the same time I change my oil and air cleaner, check my brakes and all the bolts on all the skids and suspension components... AND I am over 60 AND my tires weigh a little more than most...LOL... That and I am not a "big" guy.... I am just a little old man... It is not that hard.

hah, didn't know the 2.7 was setup that way. Cool. Another reason I wish Ford would have a manual option for the 2.7.

AND it’s good exercise, AND no over-torqued bolts.

Nah you’re right, 5 tire rotations matter especially with bigger tires and matching wear. Weird that a Valvoline shop acted confused like Jeeps and Broncos haven’t had rear mounted spares forever lol. Some quick lube places panic the second something isn’t a Corolla.
