I know... Search, etc, etc, yada, yada, yada.
Looking for real world experience with a 2 door half rack, rear clamshell only. Preferably one that you feel comfortable lifting the top off with.

I put the Trailrax 1/2 rack on my 2 door and it seems to work just fine. Added a bit of wind noise but that was expected. I connect my hoist to the 1/2 rack to lift off the top and leave it hanging in the garage. Works fine for me.

I'll second the trailrax half rack. I do have the side pack structure and rarely take my rear roof off. But the trailrax has been fantastic. It's held up very well. You can also use a sunrider quite well with it, so you can have a soft-top front that's easy to flip up and a roof rack on the back. I've been very happy with that combination, personally.

Could you post some pics?

If I were to do such a thing, the JCR would be my weapon of choice.

Instead I use the tractor.

Here are a few where you can see the rack well (and our rather thin Christmas tree from last year).

I picked up a stand alone pack rax for my 2Door. How in the world did you install the forward outer clamps into the hardtop seam? The seam is so narrow on my hardtop the steel clamp barely fits in without the foam. With the adhesive foam I’m at a loss how to install them without the adhesive foam peeling back. Cheers.

Do you have an unpainted hard top or a painted one? The painted ones have different dimensions for the slots and there's a different rack coming out for those, I think.

Otherwise, it's tight, but it fits well once it's under pressure on mine. There's no slot for it like there is in the back, and it didn't just slide in, but it does hold well and doesn't scratch things on mine.

Thanks for your reply. I have the MIC top, not painted. How did you get the foam into the seam without peeling it off?

Sorry for the delay! The foam isn't supposed to go into the seam. It's supposed to go on the "flat" part of the mount where it contacts the outside of the hardtop. Only bare metal goes into the seam, so far as I know. Or at least that's how I installed things, anyway.

You might reach out to @TrailRax for confirmation.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve traded emails with TR several times and sent them the same photo. They didn’t comment on how I installed the foam. I just followed the YT vid, but that video is for the Moredoor. I appreciate the suggestion.

@TrailRax - any suggestions? Thanks.

Yeah, the 4-door hardtop has a second slot like the back 2-door slot where the front metal clamps go. So the foam position is different for it. The 2-door only has a slot in the back, so the front clamp has to be a bit different.
