Curious what the one thing is you MUST bring on the road with you.

Could be recovery gear, snacks, tools… anything you refuse to leave home without 😄

I store tools, NOCO jump starter, shovel, ratchet straps, zip ties, extension cord, bungies, under my front seats, always there. RTT always on top for the summer, too hard to take on and off. Heading out on a road trip, 2 or more nights, 12v fridge and Bluetti solar battery (plus other camping gear, garmin/yaesu). Kind of added to your "only 1 thing". Only 1 thing: cell phone (grew up in the '80's, gee how did I survive, lol).

Road trip: Clothing appropriate for the potential exterior weather. It amazes me the folks who will venture out in the world with nothing but a tee shirt, basketball shorts and flip flops as if they will always be in a climate controlled environment.

Off Road trip: Tire chains. Yep, they can get you out of about anything, mud, snow, even rock (maybe not sand). Our former hunting spot access was a very steep, very rocky (think mini Rubicon), usually snowy or muddy jeep road. If there had even been a heavy dew four chains were required and often there were several inches of snow and mud.

I like how “only 1 thing” turned into a full overlanding inventory real quick 😅

But honestly, that sounds like a pretty dialed setup. And keeping the RTT on all summer makes total sense if you’re using it often enough.

Also… growing up in the ‘80s and surviving road trips without a cell phone does feel slightly unbelievable now 😂

Honestly, both of those answers feel like they come from experience 😅

And the tire chains point is a good one. A lot of people think of them only for snow, but they can absolutely save you in mud and slick rocky terrain too.

That hunting road sounds like it could turn into a bad day real quick without them.
