John deere just got hammered for not allowing owners and service shops to fix deere equipment. I've ordered a taillight form that website and they also insisted on a vin..... I told them to STOP asking, I was sure of the part number and they backed off.....it's just them.

I've got 80k on my original pads and rotors so I'm up for a set as well.... quick search turned up all kinds of options, it seem their the same for some f-150s, expeditions etc. the problem is picking a good set.....

Again I call this all BS and it's quite irritating to have my right to repair tracked by the manufacturer.
You’ve admitted that you stumbled upon that vendor via search engine and now you know that despite their scammy name they have nothing to do with Ford. You’ve conflated them, mixed in a healthy scoop of your pre-existing right to repair gripe, and baked a sloppy conspiracy cake. And then complain when all this is pointed out. Good work.

They are a Ford dealer genius. Read the thread

Your Ford dealers often play the same game as the cut-rate part sites
Oh my local dealer definitely plays games alright. But it's certainly not the "let me get you the best price" game.

VIN requirement is very simple. It guarantees correct parts. Part numbers slowly morph over a vehicles lifespan. That and large numbers of trim models and options leads to many potential mistakes with customer supplied year/make/model alone. Correct parts makes for happy and safe customers and fewer returns which is obviously good for buyer and seller.

End of story.

I've always been able to decline giving a VIN if I don't want to bother dragging it out, it's never been an issue.

Has anybody actually bought and received OEM Ford Motorcraft brake pads and not been required to provide the VIN of your Bronco?

It's a simple question? I get that people can find an item and load it into the cart. I did the same thing. I actually purchased the items. It was the day after that I was required to provide the VIN for the purchase to go through!
I did buy OEM pads recently and I do believe they did ask for the VIN for fitment purposes. If you didn't provide the VIN, no returns if not correct.

They wanted to cancel the sale if I didn't submit it.
The price was quite good around $82 and $87 or so plus shipping so saved roughly 40 or 50 bucks compared to the hyperlinks people have posted from Ford.

I’d like to know did the parts arrive and are they the correct ones?
FYI the powerstop work great, at least equal to motorcraft, so buy with ease next time.

And you are correct that Farley and others have said things and taken actions to make self repair less accessible.

The VIN nonsense is about trying to not have returns for wrong part orders, it’s not a right to repair issue at least yet.

Having bought from those websites a few times now, they make their money on shipping... lol

I have yet to see you post evidence of them wanting to cancel the order. Did they email you or something? That's just not something that vendors do.
Also, you were the one asking spoecifically for Ford links, and now you're complaining about them. Are you just trolling at this point??

The "they're out to get me" narrative is undermined by more obvious and coherent explanations like "we want to limit returns" is Occam's razor: more likely and less effort explanations exist and are thus more likely to be true. Why a VIN is so damning when you're giving them a name, email and credit card is also beyond me.

Ah I missed that, thanks. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy just faked that screenshot though. lol
