Description:

The TransAmerica Trail is America’s longest off-road adventure: a continuous network of off-road trails & backcountry routes that connect from coast to coast, spanning 5,900+ miles. It has no official signs and no official single path. To find and navigate it, you need to be in the know.

Over the course of a 32-day endeavor, Ford and @Google Maps set out to do something that’s never been done before: Put the entire trail on Street View for anyone to explore – giving adventurers of all experience levels what they need to navigate the off-road with confidence.

Equipped with Google Maps’ new Street View camera, the Ford Bronco® led the Ranger® and Expedition® Tremor® from Oregon to North Carolina across nearly every type of terrain, capturing imagery the entire way.

The TransAmerica Trail. Captured with Ford capability, following Tread Lightly! off-roading principles. Now on Street View.

I wish they would do that with the other off-roading trails so that I could just use the built-in nav rather than the Bronco Trail App, which I don't have great results with. I realize that's a huge endeavor, but they could start with the Moab trails and other popular areas and work from there.

I have often considered doing a section of the TAT as part of an inefficient road trip. I'd love to cross-reference known obstacle locations with the street view images - searching TransAmerica Trail on Google just kinda drops you in the middle of nowhere, but you can definitely see the roof of the Bronco and the Expedition behind!

I hope it is better than the Bronco Trail App, which was a total waste. They have a long way to go to earn my trust after that dumpster fire.
It's actually worth starting a class action over... at least that's what the attorney told me that I called about Ford's dumbass stupid Bronco Trail app that was a flop

What happened to the Bronco trail app? I thought it was just discontinued/sunsetted? Besides, a monthly subscription that I'm guessing was around 10 bucks or so a month, was there any other cost to it?

I drove the TAT in Aug/Sept of 2020 in my 2019 Ranger, started in western North Carolina I did very little planning, which is not a good idea, but it was the Covid era and I wasn't working, so off I went.
I purchased the route from the Sam Correro website - https://www.transamtrail.com/
there are others, most often mentioned is gpsKevin.
I used GAIA through Carplay (iphone X)
Never needed to use my winch
Needed the chainsaw a couple times (Which I have now replaced with a sawzall)

Remember this route was designed for up to medium sized adventure bikes. Very very curvy at times, great for motorcycles, not always fun in a truck.
And, generally a Subaru can do it, with a by pass or two.

Rule 1: Mud flaps. You will be driving on a hell of a lot of gravel roads. You will experience numerous theories about the design, thickness and maintenance of said gravel roads.
Rule 2: You are generally within an hour, if not half an hour of civilization. Many times you are driving on a gravel secondary road and can see the main road across a field.
Rule 3: A lot more paved roads than I expected. Handy for work arounds.
Rule 4: Weather - rain creates the mud which can cause problems. Keep up on the weather ahead of you so you will know what you will be driving into, nor the type and condition of the road.
Rule 5: Avoid the Lake City, Colorado to Ironton, Colorado section on the weekend. And probably Moab as well.
Rule 6: Forest fires. I got rerouted in central Oregon. 10 mile section i need to finish.
Rule 7: Not all states permit the selling of alcohol at gas stations.
Rule 8: The route is not linear, sometimes to stay off main roads you drive 20 miles or so up, over or around.
Rule 9: as in all off roading, check the date of any posts or videos, as popular places seem to be exhibiting high amount of wear and tear yearly. Also be aware of how the rigs they are using are built and the drivers experience.

If you are a good planner and researcher you can probably stitch together your own route - especially the parts in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Oregon.
Plenty of ideas, adventures and trails in:

I liked it better when it was just us dirt bikers and ADVbike guys....... Kinda sad to see it go mainstream.....even though most softlanders already started catching wind of it. 😐

So I talked to the folks that built the Bronco Trail app and they did everything correctly and followed Ford's guidance. They got paid for doing the work because they did it well and it was completed. However Ford totally dropped the ball because the programming inside the Broncos computers isn't compatible and doesn't allow for the app to stay active when the Bronco loses connectivity with the internet either through the cell signal on the modem or the Wi-Fi, if either one are disconnected then the trail app restarts from the beginning and you lose your place and map and anything that you've tried to save. They know it wouldn't work and that's why they pulled it from the Google Play Store! What I'm saying is we should all be refunded somehow because this was a huge selling point for the Bronco in general in the beginning when they first rolled them out. Ford offered and then didn't deliver. This is grounds for an EXPENSIVE lawsuit.

Ford is out of their element when doing IT. The problem with class action is that even if successful, the law firm will rake it in while each end user will get something like a $12.32 credit at the Ford Accessory store
