On the F150, the spare does not have a TPMS and is NOT balanced.

I am sure that is why they are confused.

I just rotated in the 5th wheel yesterday. Dealership said they only do this at customer request. I also had to show him the rotation pattern I wanted them to follow (same as pic posted earlier in this thread). They also tried to tell me the 5th didn't have TPS. Good grief!

Same with the Expedition. The plain steel wheel for the spare does not have TPMS. It should be balanced though.

I don't think it matters what order you rotate the tires as long as you follow the same order next time.
If you do it yourself, the order matters in that if you follow the diagram posted in this thread, you only jack each side up once. Drop spare, lift passenger side, rear goes on front, spare goes on rear, front laying on ground. Drop passenger side, lift driver side, pass front goes on rear, rear on front. Drop drivers side, front is now your spare ;)

And I had a flat and can attest that the spare has a TPMS and it did not need to be reprogrammed or anything (non raptor though). I really wish they would add the spare to the display though, would be nice to easily see its pressure but oh well. 5 tire rotation will keep it in check.

It also depends on who did your tires. I got aftermarket wheels/tires and the shop also balanced the spare.

lol. Let me rephrase. OEM f150 spare does not have tpms and is not balanced

of course if you go aftermarket you can do whatever you want

Question regarding 5-tire rotation....

I bought the car with around 13k miles on it. It now has almost 15k miles on it. I could wait until 20k miles to do the next scheduled maintenance, or I may take it for service soon since I've been doing a bunch of off-roading.

Anyway, I know the previous owner took the car to Ford for service around 10k miles, but I DON'T know if the spare tire was rotated in.

I guess I can determine if it was by comparing the tread depths but if it WASN'T, is it too late now to start rotating it in? Should I bring it in now at 15k miles or would it be ok to rotate a brand new tire into the equation at 20k?

All full size OEM spares are balanced from the factory.
If it doesn’t have weights there is a good chance it just didn’t need any. Not very common, but it happens.

My gen1 and gen2 raptor spare was not balanced. I removed the spare and took it to my shop and they needed weights. I have not checked my GEN3 truck yet. I will check tomorrow morning to see if it has any weights and update this post

I stand corrected, after looking around it seems none of them have weights. I’m not sure when or why they stopped doing it, but it looks like you’re right. Probably trying to save Pennies.

My question is .. when is it too late to start rotating the spare in if my dealer has been dropping the ball on it?
Next service I'll be at 20,000...

This is what I always did on my wrangler, and what I've been doing on my Bronco.
5 tire.jpg
I do this one also.

Tpms sensors are in all 5 of them. They reconnect at 20 mph. Self learning.

If your at 20k I wouldn’t rotate it in.

I disagree….respectfully…..
If you’re using your four wheel drive properly, 4H & 4L (not talking about 4A), AND it’s the same tire (brand and size), I would rotate it in, unless the tread wear was significantly different.
