Hey guys!
I finally got around to changing out my non-sas fender flares! I have 17x8.5-0 wheels that poke past my non-sas flares quite a bit. This lead to more rock chips than I can fix and ultimately ripping off one of my rear flares after airborne driving because the tire was unable to tuck into the flare. I could have just put OEM sas flares on but thats no fun. Instead I installed some carbon fiber flares made by Composite Off-road Parts that you can get from Lobo Off-road.
Im extremely impressed with the finish. They look like a part right off a million dollar supercar. Out of place on a Bronco? Maybe a little, but the necks I'm breaking everywhere I go is priceless
. Speaking of price, they come in at $1600 for the set of OEM style and $1700 for the high clearance variant. Comparing them Jeep JL carbon flares that come in around $2600, I would say they are actually reasonably priced for what they are.
The install takes a little patience. They delete the factory turnstyle quick release with rivnuts that require you to upsize only the guide holes utilized by the stock flares. Will this make it a little more time consuming to remove the flares? Yes, but at the same time I wouldn't want my new eye catching flares to just be yanked off by anyone that knows how the Bronco flares work. They also require slight hole adjustment to dial in the placement, that I was able to accomplish with a drill and some standard bits. Overall not that hard and only took me a couple hours. Lobo has detailed video on how to install.
So far I'm obsessed with how they look and think they will be more durable than the flimsy OEM flares. Next step is to get some PPF on them to help prevent rock chips. What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Did I gain instant HP? Do you also have a carbon fiber addiction?
Everything you'll need. (Drill, 25/64 Bit, 5/16 Bit, Step Bit, Rivnut tool, 10mm Wrench, Detail Spray)
The smaller 5 holes on each flare location will be slightly upsized to 25/64" for rivnut install. Then it's just trying on the flare and hole adjustment until placement is perfect.
