Looking for thoughts on aux light mount location for slow trail driving in heavily forested areas….

i like the clean look of three lights in the modular bumper opening. For roughly the same price, I could do two in the bumper and one in the A-pillar, which could be canted out more, but less clean.

Looks like morimoto has a Black Friday sale starting tomorrow, so your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi - I just installed the modular bumper Baja Design 3-light kit from 4x4 Truck LEDs. I went with their "staff pick" for lights: S2 SAE Amber, S2 SAE White, and Squadron Pro White Driving/Combo. I love it so far. The SAEs are good (and street legal) for everyday use and the Squadron Pros can light up a trail pretty good. I opted for this setup as I like the clean look with everything within the lines of the Bronco, not hanging out like A-pillar or roof mounts. I'm not a hardcore off-roader and this is my daily driver and I think this combo works out perfect for me.

I also got an email saying 4x4 Truck LEDs Black Friday deals start 11/22.

I went this way to get a LOAD of light out front. I'm very happy with this easy install between the grill and bumper. @MandRautomotive

I did a 30" rigid light bar on the bumper and morimoro HXB 4 bangers for the a pillar lights. They are the wide angle. I love them both. The Rigid has a great Hotspot the throws light super far and the morimotos cover the rest.

I have A pillar pods, a roof bar, and fogs in the bumper. It puts a crap ton of light, I can turn night to day with this setup. All Rigid setup. The bottom pic is with the backlights on and fog.

The extra height from the A pillar location is an improvement for tight trails as you can get more light out to the sides outside the fenders compared to a bumper kit. I would go with the two pair in the bumper and one on the pillar option. I’m very pleased with the Diode Dynamics setup I’ve had for a couple years. They offer more SAE legal options so I get more actual use than other options I tried.

Pillar mounts should only be used for “ditch” lights pointed to the sides to keep reflections off the hood…fog & driving lights should be out front (bumper/grill) and if ya want spots, put them above the windshield.

SAE fogs in bumper, SAE driving on bull bar, combo flood/driving on pillar, Spots up high…

Agreed @Oldhippie . Assuming I go with ditch lights canted out at about a 30 degree angle, which beam pattern is best? I want to see close-in tree branches, rocks, drop-offs. I’m thinking flood pattern.

mine are flood/driving combos…flood is good slow and driving are good with more speed…

I dont point my ditch lights straight sideways as I often move at a pretty good clip, in high open savannah and less dense pine areas. The black vinyl on my Wildtrak hood helps with glare. Yellow helps some too in dust and snow.

I like KC for being an OG brand, up the street from me, with a complete line, and Nacho for their desert racing technology, and awesome vibe. I'm also partial to working with Arizona companies.

Pillar lights I want for side-front driving more than I want for all-the-way-to-the-side ditch lights... I think if I wanted that I'd use the zone lighting and rock-lights for that... I'm not a professional so don't listen to me anyway lol. But driving a LOT in the desert... a lot of dust and hazy sunrise/sunset times so I need a lot of forward lighting. I'm thinking a couple ditch lights that face forward but out and a couple/few bigger lights on front mod bumper. Probably need some reverse lights too.

I too am in AZ, down in phx metro but I make it up to your area on occasion. I'm interested in nacho too, and KC honestly... what I'm interested in asking you specifically is what front bumper mounting setup do you have?
