[Android-specific, I don't know anything about Apple]
I was surprised to learn Sync 4 supports album art over Bluetooth, it's just disabled by default on most Androids, leaving you with a generic Music Note on the Sync screen. I listen to Spotify/YouTube Music over straight Bluetooth, no Android Auto or CarPlay or anything like that.
On your phone:
Phone Settings > search for "Build number"
Tap the build number 12 times or so, enter your PIN.
Go back to Settings, search for AVRCP
Change it to AVRCP 1.6
Reboot the phone
On Sync 4:
If album art doesn't work immediately, delete and re-pair the phone.
Such a simple thing, but makes the screen look nicer. Too bad my 22 Silverado, which also supports 1.6 and natively runs Android, doesn't display art.
Obviously this video skips the PIN entry screen, normally it'll say nothing for the first several taps, then "You are x taps away from being a developer" instead of the "No need, you are already a developer" message
