Ok...so I know this is a weird question but I just bought a 2021 Badlands 2.3L 7MT on Saturday and I am absolutely loving it. Its sitting on 35s and felt surprisingly peppy (my wife has a base 2021 with the 2.3L on 33s so I have that for frame of reference) but wasn't sure if that was the 4.7 gearing. Aside from the get up and go that it has, I realized that it has rev matching (which was weird when not expecting it). I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this based on my research but want confirmation: Am I correct in saying the only way to have auto rev matching is with a Procal flash? Is there any way to definitively confirm that? Unfortunately, the truck did not come with the device itself so all I have to go off of at the moment is the seat of the pants feel and the rev matching feature. I was just about to pull the trigger on the Pulsar XT or JB4 units too....

I think you can see it with OASIS or FDRS? Someone with access would be able to tell you better. I know when the dealer does certain updates, they can see that they need to reload the tune after they're done or something like that.

Awesome thanks! I'll look into that.

Be aware service advisors might be entirely clueless; the one I worked with recently had never heard of the ProCal and I had to explain it to him (I didn't want it accidentally updated).

@Ducati1098 Is it right that you can see the tune in OASIS or whatnot?

the Ford pro cal will also turn off the auto-stop, so if that is off, then it's a poor mans way to tell

That's only true for some. Ford removed that right after I installed my 23 tune in August 2023, which is why I don't want it updated.

Yes, Oasis will show if the VIN has been used with a Ford Performance calibration.
However there is no way to tell if said tune is still loaded or not from Oasis.
My still shows the warning that it had the tune, but it hasn't actually been loaded for years.

Interesting. Is the only way to know definitively then if you have the tuner device and connect it?

Yeah. Either that or see if it has rev-matching/ASS disabled still working. But obviously those are gone one some now.

If it has rev matching, it should also still have the ASS disable memory.

That, and the turbo going up past 18 psi (seems to try to cap at 21, can sometimes get it over if you really try but only momentary) are pretty good signs you have the tune.

Be careful though, if you don't also have the ProCal box, there are system updates that can remove the tune and you'd have no way to get it back, short of buying it again (without rev matching and ASS disable)

And if you do have the box, then if you ever update the tune file on the box and try to update it, you'll lose it.

It's like getting the golden ticket from Willy Wonka.

Didn't even notice it (not used to having auto-stop on my previous vehicle) but yeah, auto-stop is disabled. So I think its fair to say that I've got the Procal calibration/tune on my Bronco, which is a pleasant surprise. Just wish the previous owner would have left the device with the truck since its tied to the VIN anyways!

Thanks everyone for your help/input.

Would you recommend that I disable automatic system updates to prevent inadvertently losing the tune?

You also need to use 93/91 octane. This has been gone over in other threads, but an occassional 87/89 tank probably won't hurt, but you really should use 93 as much as you can.

The dealer I bought it from gave me a full tank of 87 but after that, I've been running 93 in it. I had to drive 4 hours to get the Bronco so that first tank went quickly.

That won't update the tune. I think you have to do it on a computer and load it, hence service techs when they're reloading have been known to update the tune by accident. I assume they got the tuner out of the glovebox or something, so maybe that's not an issue for you if you don't have it. But if they do remove it for service, it would need to be reloaded as-is (however that works, I'm not a tech). I usually just make sure there's a note on the service ticket NOT to update it and that it remains/returns as-is.

Since you have the MT, if it ever does get lost, consider just leaving it without it. Without the rev matching and ASS eliminator, and updated shift schedules (on auto), there's not much to recommend for that money.
