It's actually pretty easy to defend a patent. If it's a clear infringement it's an easy case to win.
If you were just doing it for your own use, yeah that's fine. But what you were doing is offering to sell darwings/design data, that's not good. But if you are just making it for yourself and for personal use, no harm there. So you may just want to revise your original post and/or delete this post and make a new one showing "here is what I made for my personal vehicle" know what I mean
Having a similar shape to perform the same function is harder to prove as an infringement than you think.

A guy made a flat plate with some holes in it, put the dimensions on his computer and offered to give it for free to anyone who wanted to do the same and you start threatening a patent infringement lawsuit.
