Need advice on tires other than BFG- I am just not impressed with the BFG’s inability to stay balanced. According to the Michelin rep at my dealer (Akins) this is a common and “known” problem with the K02 on the Raptor, so I’ve decided to replace them.

Note that I’m not a huge off roader, I’d say 5% or less of my driving and when i do go off road, it’s driving through trails at parks, in north GA, nothing crazy. In addition to running around the suburbs, I do a fair amount of road trips/highway driving.

I’m looking for a direct replacement, something that performs decently off road and has good on-road manners from a ride quality perspective.

Appreciate any recommendations!

MT Baja Boss AT is probably the best regarded tire around these forums. The only bad thing anyone can say about them is they are a bit heavy.

BFG is either love it or hate it - but they are the absolute most common tire I see on off road vehicles.

Falken Wildpeak is second most common, but the AT4S (the latest version) changes out some traction for durability from the previous AT3S - but you will probably get the most miles out of this tire

The list above - of the major brand names all are pretty good to be honest and can’t really go wrong with any of them. In your case a decent AT tire would be good, I’d probably stay away from MT.

Here's a little dated comparison page of the 37s that were on the market...Coopers AT3 are lo noler available so this is a little dated.
Thank you! This list is awesome

I'd also say - probably want to look at the LR C or D options moreso than the others. LR E or F will ride harsh and your mileage will suffer for it, for little to no benefit for what you are using them for.

The first thing that popped into my mind is the Nitto Recon Grappler since I know they have a 37" tire with D-load range. The Recon Grapplers are a little more road friendly while still having the "cool" look, so it would be a good fit. But Mickey Thomson Baja Boss A/Ts that @Brian_B mentioned is another good choice.

The difficulty you'll have is finding a tire that is as light weight as the BFG KO2. The lighter the tire the more friendly it is in the MPG department (probably why Ford picked it). BUT... I'm guessing if you bought a Raptor then MPG is probably not high on your priority list.

I'm running Nitto Ridge Grapplers myself, not a bad tire at all. I would have run the MTs, but I still have the m190 front end and weight was a big consideration.

The Raptor version of the K03 will be out this spring if you want to wait. It's about 10 pounds lighter per tire than the non-Raptor K03.

Once mine need replaced I'll be going with the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro. I've had good experiences with that tire in the past and there a quite a few members on this forum that run them.

Here are several tires designed to look HD off-road but for the street...I think if you Google or AI this term they'll come up Id look at Falken, Pirelli, Michelin....they are out there. New trucks are often equipped with them so it's worth going to dealers and observing the street.

I saw that Pirelli has many options.....Falken has one as well.

I have to agree with you on the BFG

I have to agree with you On the BFG's ability to balance and keep balanced. I had them on my 1985 4 Runner, my 2018 Jeep Rubicon and I could never get the shimmy out. I had tried different shops and dealers all at my costs to balance them correctly. I too am looking for an alternative tire so I'll keep watching with you. I have 33K on my 2023 Badlands Sasquatch 2 door and actually the Good Years from the factory have been Great!!! I still have 8/32nd's on them so I'm pretty sure I'll get 50K out of them. I may go with them again...

MT Baja Boss AT ...
I assume you mean the AT not MT AT  .

Do you mean the Raptor factory size will be out this spring or literally a "Raptor" version? It will be 10 lb lighter per tire than the same sized K03? This sounds strange.

Yes, one made with the same load rating as the current Raptor-specific K02. It'll be the same thing in terms of differences between the two tires. You'll have your normal K03 (which is out now) and this spring, the C load rating tire will be released and it's lighter than the standard K03.

Here's the standard K03. Note the weight is 74 pounds. It gets the F load designation.

Here's the "Raptor" K02 which has a C load rating. Note its weight is 64 pounds. If you look up the F load rated K02, it'll be 74 pounds off the top of my head. So it'll be "same same" when the C load-rated K03 is released in the spring.

Guys Guys Guys, I've found the real problem here!!!

If you will just go on this little Windrock run with us for the Yuletide ride on the 20th you will see it is an application issue, and you need a tire like a 38 MT I'd say this 38x13.5-17 DOT certified for light on road use.
