Easy answer from my view... "C" rated tires are more for everyday softer ride use. Just look at how nearly every SUV and car come with the "C" rated tires. Even most 1/2 ton trucks!

Ever notice how you may run 35-38lbs. air pressure on your SUV/car, only to go get a "Service" done and they reduce your air pressure to 29-30 lbs.? All about the ride. I prefer a stiffer sidewall and the small improvement of gas mileage from a properly aired tire. Regardless of class.

"E" rated tires are designed more for heavier loads, rougher terrain and heat tolerance (Tires got hotter the more weight they take on). And you really do not want the tail to wag the dog (Trailer moving the tow vehicle). "E" rated tires provide a much better resistance to what a trailer tries to do to the tow vehicle. The stiffer sidewalls are night and day in comparison to the "C" rated tires in this instance.

Unless you are doing hwy driving when towing or a lot of towing. "C" rating tires fit the bill for the "Every once in a while" type use to once a week. It is all about wind, weight and use.

Cool, that's a good, detailed answer. RE: the gas mileage above, are you saying the "C" or the "E" gets a LITTLE better gas mileage?

It depends on the use. However, any properly inflated tire is going to get you better gas mileage, compared to not properly inflated.

Now... The "E" rated tire is usually heavier. So it usually impacts the gas mileage negatively.

This can become a reeeeeeeally long thread as this rabbit hole is deep.

Just go with what you will need 90% of the time and leave those tires properly inflated and you will be happy.

That's entirely up to you. I have Go Rhino RB20s on my Gladiator. I don't necessarily need them but they help my 5' 1" girlfriend and my 2yo granddaughter. The big thing I like about them is they deflect rocks kicked up by the front tires. And protect from door dings against most vehicles.

Here is what Realtruck currently has available.

Realtruck Bronco Running Boards
I suspect I know the answer, but were you able to keep the rock rails on with these running boards? I've been looking at the RB10 for my BD when it arrives to help cut down on thrown rocks.

If you decide to stick with C load tires, there many options in the LT285/70R17 size. Here are a few all terrain choices.
Nitto Ridge Grappler
Falken A/T3W
BF Goodrich K02
Toyo Open Country A/T III

I had my dealer put on the Falkens. So far they have been great, but I have yet to rock crawl my Bronco.

Only E for the ATx. The X3 (MT) comes C rated in that size.

Rock rails have to come off. They both attach to the same mounting points.

Thanks, I figured as much. I know how many rocks off road tires can throw and something is necessary to keep paint on the side of the Bronco. Not sure if I should jump on these or hold out for a different option. I'm running out of time to wait though (assuming I get built in January as emailed).

This thread always deserves a bump.

Did have a mudflap question though:

If i get those gatorbacks and install them with my factory rock rails, and THEN i switch to a running board, will they still work with the running board?

Beautiful!!! The mountains are pretty okay too. Is that a Timmy Ho's box on the dash? I'm jealous if it is! 😋
