I wish more people didn't care for Texas so they'd stop moving here. I haven't been to the Off-Rodeo yet but plan to go to the Grey Wolf Ranch soon since that one is local for me. I did for a minute think about getting myself to Moab though. Jbellousux gave a good recommendation, there's a lot to see and do in the hill country. The Highland Lakes is a nice area and Fredericksburg is a great visit as well. I much prefer it to Las Vegas, but everyone is different. Feel free to stay clear though, we don't need more people moving here, haha.

I went through this decision recently. I live in Vermont so NH is super convenient, but not all that exciting to me. Texas is ā€” Texas, so that wasnā€™t really a consideration for me. And I donā€™t really like Vegas. Not my thing. Made Moab a real easy choice for me. Iā€™m driving out with my best friend (a longtime Jeep driver considering a Bronco) and we are going to do the Off Roadeo followed by a few extra days of exploring in my Bronco on our own. Should be an epic road trip. But I fully understand why they have the various options they offer. Not everyoneā€™s situation is like mine.
Y'know us Texas folk don't take too kindly to you Northern fuss-

Yeah, I guess you're right. Texas is Texas! Good bbq, good music, weather that'll leave you for dead, long open stretches, Austin's weird, Houston's just humid bug bogs, Dallas got the best (still trying to figure that out), San Antonio's got the Spurs (at least), so's the rural folk (weird that is), the whole damn state is strange! Stay away. Good choice! lol

Agree with others that LV would have the most to do. Most people agree that after about 4 days in LV, you want to just go home. I'd plan a trip with at least one other activity on The Strip (in the last 2 years I've seen a few concerts, including U2 at The Sphere, a Raiders game (grew up just south of Oakland), hockey/concert at T-Mobile) or nearby, like the Pinball Hall of Fame or the Neon museum.

Our guide was a floater that had worked at all 4 rodeos, and he described LV as the most technical if that is what you want. It's about 45 minutes or so from town, but amazingly completely isolated.

Great information about LV being the most technical. That certainly does add to the mounting evidence that LV is my destination.

Thank you for the feedback!

Tied for second fastest growing state. Colorado isnā€™t even in the top 10. We love to visit beautiful Colorado at least once a year. Too bad some of the people arenā€™t so nice and theyā€™re turning it into California. Very few have visited much of Texas and said the people arenā€™t friendly. Because thatā€™s what most of us areā€¦ down to earth and friendly.

Las Vegas is awesome. I am going to move there one of these days and become an eccentric casino resort owner! The Off-Roadeo at Mt. Potosi is spectacular - outstanding trails, scenery, and climate. Even the food was incredible. I thought the event would be cheesy and dumbed-down, but it was completely worthwhile. I learned how to take full advantage of the Bronco there, and it is far more capable in stock form than I imagined. The absolute best of everything is available to middle class America right in Las Vegas. Spend a few days there, and then head off into the wilds of Nevada, Arizona, or California for off-road paradise, solitude, and everything from hot desert to alpine mountains.

I have not done any other Off-Roadeo events so I cannot compare them to Vegas, though I have spent quite a bit of time in Moab and New England. Moab is too crowded and commercialized with tourists and canned adventure companies. It's essentially a Six Flags or Disney World masquerading as an outdoor mecca. I'm sure Ford's event is first class, but I'd not want to spend time there before or after. I love Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire and the NH Off-Roadeo was on my list with Vegas, but Vegas won out because I had to attend some medical conventions there. I wound up spending a month in Nevada, and one week of it was in Vegas. We hit a different trail every day, including two sets of trails right at Mt. Potosi. You'll find the Mojave is an addicting place.

When are y'all going? If you have the time, spend some days based in Laughlin - the Golden Nugget is my favorite hotel there. It's like a mini-Vegas on the Colorado River. The Mojave National Preserve and BLM lands in the NV/AZ/CA area are all well worth your time. I'm hoping to be out there for the month of June. Death Valley is cool as heck too.

We are going out in September. Sandwiched in between 4 days of Phish is Denver and my 30th HS reunion in Omaha. Plan is to go to Moab from Denver on the 4th, spend the 5th at Arches (timed ticket and not the park we will be off roading in, so getting it out of the way first), Off-Roadeo on the 6th, then spend the rest of the weekend into the next week exploring as much of the Moab area as we can. My friend has been there a few times with his Jeep and has several spots in mind. We're going to continue researching over the coming months to scope out and prioritize our options ahead of time while keeping the exact itinerary flexible.

Your trip sounds amazing too -- have a blast!

Thatā€™s crap. Moab is the most technical hands down. LV is somewhat technical but only if youā€™re doing the Ultra4 course for Braptors and thatā€™s a specialized form of technical. This is a rigged thread because you had an agenda that wasnā€™t spelled out in the original post. Youā€™re doing an off-road event. Moab is the undeniable premium spot for off-road adventures (of the available BOR sites). If thatā€™s your priority, go there. If you want posh creature comforts, wellā€¦there are other forums for that.

Not sure who hurt you Mike, but sit back and have a coke and a smile. While youā€™re at it, try reading the op again, thereā€™s nothing misleading about it. All the adults in the forum seemed to have understood it just fine. Hereā€™s a link that could help you in the future, https://www.hookedonphonics.com/

Wishing you all the best!

My original plan was to go to Moab since I'd likely never have reason to go otherwise, but Raptor off-roadeo is in LV and I have some work friends out there (shout out to that big new death star looking entertainment venue) It kinda works out for me now to just go to Vegas - but I too need to "get on my horse" and get it booked before it expires. I was trying to coordinate with some buddies who also have Braptors, but that's not working out so well right now.

Good luck getting it booked my friend! Iā€™m definitely gonna hit the Dome for a concert at some point, I hear itā€™s epic!

Thanks - yeah one of the most incredible venues I've ever witnessed. I was actually part of the commissioning team when I worked at the Corp offices in NY. Don't want to sidetrack your thread but if you have an opportunity to get there - even for the Postcards immersive show - it is definitely a must see.
