I have friends with Ford pickups with over 200,000 miles that still run like new. Remember the F150 is the best selling vehicle for over 30 years. Every time we go on vacation and drive by these old towns I always see 40 plus year old Ford and Chevy trucks that are still being driven.

OMG, what?!?! Why am I only learning about this now???

Should have stuck with the uber reliable 2.7 that had zero reported issues </s>

Every vehicle manufacturer has issues. The Bronco is not some superior quality built vehicle... We've all seen how their QC department likes to take extended lunch breaks.
Pretty much.

Wow. Thanks for sharing man.
As someone mentioned above their reliability back in the day came from lots of factors they can't afford to do anymore. The 2jz was such a great engine because they over engineered the block had Yamaha design one hell of a cylinder head and then put 200-300 hp through it. Severely underpowered to the point it just couldn't break. If your looking for any car they're pretty much all on par with the exceptions being south Korean, and Italian cars. even 3 of Toyotas current models aren't even Toyotas (supra(bmw),86(Subaru),and ia(Mazda))

Let's face it... With soy wiring, plastic oil pans, plastic trim that cracks and scratches if you look at it wrong, and scores of individual microprocessors running everything, these vehicles are not designed or intended to last more than 10 or 15 years. Planned obsolescence at its best! It will be interesting to see if Bronco fans develop ways to keep these computers with engines on the road in 20+ years. I don't expect in 50 or 60 years there will be many 6G Broncos still on the road.

Hello All, I've been seeing the 'reliability' marketing ramp up from Toyota to push the Land Cruiser out to everyone's driveway and I started thinking about it.

What makes Toyota significantly more reliable over Ford (and Broncos)? Maybe the question I should be asking is are people buying a Bronco for reliability or for fun? Who want's to take a long road trip with the family and have an increased chance of your ride taking a shit. (I remember seeing multiple people post about this when the 21's dropped and there was quite a bit of 2.7 engine failures).
6 Road trips in my '23 V6 Big Bend, including a 3k mile odyssey from Florida to New England last winter. No need for even a square of Charmin yet! The '21s did get a batch of poorly hardened valve train components that was rectified. The 2.7 and 2.3's are used in many Ford products with no major or recurrent issues, I think you can proceed with confidence. My '23 has been perfect in 16 months and 13k miles, no rattles, squeaks, warning lights or broken items. The car has been everything I hoped it would be. The dealer is the biggest differentiator, my local Ford dealers are awful. I went 4+ hours away to a highly-rated Ford dealer and could not have been happier.

the point is neither is Toyota...they just have a better PR dept handling damage control, Honda is the same....every manufacturer has issues regardless....

you are going to get fan boys with every manufacturer regardless...Ford, and for that matter Toyota have had as many issues as everyone else, of course some manufacturers or ceratin engines are standouts. One can only speak from personal experience...Ive had F150s, Rangers, a Fiesta ST that went 125000 miles before I sold it and all had ZERO issues. I now have a Bronco Sport Badlands with 35k, a Bronco Badlands stick shift with 20k and a Bronco Raptor with 15k....Ive only had one issue that required fixing...that f____n rattling subwoofer in the sucky B@O stereo.....thats it....so take that for personal experience...

But with a real frame and cool body on it these 6G's will be getting the drivetrains gutted when they start wearing out years from now and then you'll start seeing some really cool custom built off road machines! (y)

I hope you are right! That's exactly what will have to happen to keep them going.
I believe stock-ish 6Gs that run will be a very rare thing.

Those Toyotas you see in Africa and East Asia are not "Americanized" nor "Europeanized" vehicles. They don't have the "junk" required for safety and pollution that are required of US/EU spec trucks. Those trucks don't even have A/C in them and will take a beating.

Toyotas built in Japan are exceptionally well put together. Other places....

IMHO, Toyotas are considered more reliable because Toyota is resistant to change. If it works they don't change it.

Compared to Ford that has refeshes every couple of years and feels that there has be an enhancement yearly to keep sales up.

Toyota quality is taking a beating now because they finally are making big changes. In a year or two they will fix the issues and keep those platforms largely unchanged for a decade or more.

I’ve been a Toyota fan boy for years, but the 6G Bronco design was too good for me to not try it out. So glad I did because driving a Bronco brings so much excitement that my Toyota’s never did (1984 4Runner partially excluded). My Bronco has taken me places off-road that no Toyota ever could, and always gets me home. It has been a wonderful surprise. The latest 3.4 TT V6 from Toyota has scared me since they rolled out the latest Tundra. My next truck purchase might actually be an F150 with a Coyote in it just because this Bronco has impressed me so much in 27,000 miles.

This is why Toyota gets to claim the reliability card:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/post-your-high-mileage-100-series.270848/

trucks in there that are creeping up on 400/500/600k miles, and they're doing it on nothing but oil changes.

I most certainly bought my bronco for fun, but have been nicely surprised by how reliable it's been, some small issues here and there, but nothing affecting reliability for almost 62k miles now.
The 100 series was designed around a 25-year service life, and considering their use cases globally, I believe it. As someone who has owned more Toyotas than other brands and wanted the LC/4R, even I think they're getting complacent. They have hybrid tech cornered, but the quality is middling inside their cars these days. I have my reservations about the 250 series carrying the torch of previous generations, especially when Toyota started making platforms modular. TNGA-F has only underpinned every BOF Toyota from 2021, so the jury is still out on longevity.

I decided to give Ford a shot considering how many people drive F-150s in my area, so we'll see. I'm hoping to get it before issues start popping up on my current car. So far I've been lucky that typical Volkswagen things have not happened.

Given the compacted graphite block, cracked mains, offset crank, and dual port fuel injection, I think the 2.7 will be around for quite some time. Sure, you may end up replacing everything attached to it over the next 20 years eventually, but at the core, it’s one hell of an engine. ANY car can last decades if you take care of it and don’t neglect/abuse it. It all starts with fluid maintenance.

Toyota used to have a slogan - 300,000 miles in 3rd world conditions. The tolerances were excessive in their engineering to allow for that to happen. As opposed to Germany’s engineering of precise precision, the tolerances were practically non-existent. When they got it right though, they nailed it - hence the old MB diesels.

End of the day; anything can last a long time if you take care of it and respect it. I personally think this 6g Bronco is going to fall into that category for many owners. Given the price tag, I would be surprised if their children are driving them to remember their dad someday. I’m 50, and that’s the plan for mine anyway. Someday when I’m long gone, I hope my then adult son (and perhaps with his own children) can take a drive in grandpa’s old Bronco that he bought for himself as his 50th birthday present.
