I observed my wife pass another (Make/model) of what she drives recently and she inherently started waving at them. She didn't know them, doesn't drive a "waving" vehicle, but inherently knew that there was a common thread between the two and waved...plus we live in an area where folks inherently wave at each other inside of their neighborhoods.

If we're both staring at each other, we've essentially progressed into a realm where it's more socially acceptable to acknowledge one another rather than ignore each other. My $.02.

Yeah - that's mostly true, I ride with a pretty eclectic group of bikes, Vaquero, Stratoliner, Street Glides, SV, FZ and my XDiavel so pretty rare not to get a wave.
