Bronco 1 : Nissan 0

Rear ended on the Dan Ryan in Chicago. When braking hard, the other car dove under my Bronco. Totally missed the rear spare. Banged up the bumper. Pull it off, bolt on a new one and ready to go. The Nisssan…not so much.

Thoughts on an aftermarket rear bumper? Now’s the time!

If everything ahead of the bumper checks out OK, take the insurance $$$ and keep the bumper..."Every ding and scratch has a story to tell"...

The Nissan absorbing the impact is why the bronco wasn't more damaged. It's not that it's "tougher" or "won" anything...
Well it's also partly due to the Nissan submarining under the Bronco, converting some impact energy into lifting the Bronco.

I assume everyone in poor Nisssan are ok.

G-wagen has a silly-looking skirt under rear bumper for that exact reason.

I'd check frame and exhaust just in case. Could be more damage than it seems.

Fellow Chicagoan here… glad it wasn’t that bad. To answer your question… I have a DV8 bumper. Works great. Got OE and it’s steal so very strong. Great customer support too. Good luck.

You do realize a Mack truck will fail the NHTSA front impact test right?
So if you hit a 10' thick concrete wall at 35 mph the Nissan would save your life, the Mack Truck maybe not.
But if the Nissan hits a Mack Truck head on at 35 mph, well which would you rather be in?
Or if you hit a deer at 50 mph, which would you rather be in?

I had a very similar experience. When the cop showed up, he looked at his vehicle, then looked at mine and said to both of us; "We clearly have a winner and a loser here". I had a hard time trying not to laugh. I don't think the other guy thought it was as funny.
