Why can’t you open hard top rear window or unzip and put down back seats down? Seemed simple enough.

Simple. surfboard tie down straps.
wrap your tree in a throwaway tree bag to prevent treesap on roof
Open doors & strap tree to roof.
Bam! Done.

I tied down on top of my soft top NP. Put plastic down under net wrapped tree (9’er on mine) use trail site tie down locations and rear bumper recovery points- it worked fine.

A half-rack does fine, cross-wise or front to back.
