Hi all, my ‘22 2.7l has developed a very pronounced rattle during cold startup. It lasts roughly 4 or 5 secs before the noise drops out. It sounds like a Diesel engine. I have a service appointment scheduled with my Dealer. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a Cam phaser issue? TIA

My 2018 F150 with the cam phaser issue. See video below. Fixed under warranty and it never came back

That sounds exactly like mine! I have 7k miles on my bronco. Glad to hear they were able to fix it and it hasn’t returned. Thanks for sharing.

I’m thinking this is way to loud and pronounced to be the waste gate linkage. I watched some videos of that on YouTube.

Hello there! If you are able to send over a private message with your VIN and dealership information, I can look into this for you.

Test your theory.

Hold the brake pedal down and the accelerator pedal and press the start button. This will spin the engine over without actually starting and build up oil pressure.

Let it do that for like 5 seconds and then start normal. If the sound went away... Then yes it's a good chance it is your cam phasers.

Cam phasers. It's just par for the course with Ford ownership.

I have been experiencing the cold start rattle as well. Took it into the dealership and they just got word from Ford that they need to replace all 4 Variable Camshaft Timing Units (cam phasers). I live in Austin and both Ford dealerships in my area told me they have never heard of the Bronco having this issue.... Looks like it will become more common with the 2.7L engines.

Just scheduled my appt to get mine replaced. Earliest appt is March 14th. Either nobody wants to work or they are absolutely covered up with POS Fords.

Anybody with the noisy phasers do a really early first oil change, like at 1-2k or so miles? Wondering if the high volume first fill was a special blend meant to condition the new components until the oil life indicator said otherwise.

I did one at 1100 miles. The noise started around 7k miles. I performed a second oil change and it didn’t eliminate the noise.

I’m still waiting on dealer to call me back. They ordered parts 3.5 weeks ago.
