I've see people using these in the rear of a 4 door. From what I've read, they seem to be happy with them. It was my plan until I switched to a 2 door.

You're right, finding a great mug is tough. For me it's the GSI Infinity Mug, best darn coffee mug in the word - but it doesn't fit! It's ultralight compared to those anchors Yeti makes.

The search was painful and I'm not looking forward to wasting anymore time on it but I ordered these two to test in the bronco.

i did this to be able to use Yeti or other L sized bottles. This is an OR bottle holder.

Zojirushi 16oz Coffee Mugs are my favorite. One handed open/close/lock/unlock lids, comes apart easily for easy cleanup, keeps drinks hot/cold longer than anything else I've had, and they fit every cupholder I've used.
