Everytime any new tech is talked about on this forum you get people commenting about "tHeY cAn'T HaVe mY dAtA" It's wild, and they never explain why...just act super paranoid about nothing....like your cell phone doesn't have the same access to your "driving habits"

....like what the hell are y'all doing that is so secret?
As such, there's always the "I've got nothing to hide" deference.

The reasons have been explained ad nauseam. Some are more comfortable putting unknown bits of data into the hands of unknown entities than others.

There have been instances of Google giving location data to police of people who are within a certain distance of a crime. There's examples of police flat out lying to get confessions out of people who had nothing to do with a crime.

That's the tip of the spear, but just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can implicate you into something that you don't even know happened. You have no idea who knows what and just as importantly, what has been shared with who.

I don't keep the front doors to my house wide open for anyone to come and go and use whatever is in it as they please. I guess I'm paranoid.

Use it often for remote start. The secret to the app is to force close after every use. Works 100% of the time.

also, I have the Ford credit card so my points always fluctuate. So use the app once in a while to monitor points level

I know WHY people think they want to keep shit secret, but it’s futile.

Personally, I was in the military and held a clearance, so they have my blood, fingerprints, bank accounts, close friends names/addresses/numbers, and literally some of my teeth. If they want to find me, I ain’t hiding.

My earlier comment was more inferring that there is no hiding if they want you, you can pretend to opt out of all the shit you want, but it’s useless. Qualified Immunity exists and so do crooked cops.

Opting out of some end user agreements aint gonna save your ass from law enforcements. They do what they want, when they want. If they want you gone, they will get a search warrant for a house on your street and “mistakenly” execute on your house and “accidentally” shoot you while you’re in your own bed; happens fairly often.

All you’re accomplishing is keeping yourself paranoid and in a fantasy of false security.

You're moving the goalposts. We're not talking about governments having access to data, but private companies.

We do have control, you just have to exercise it. Adobe just change the terms of their Creative Suite. They force you to opt in, giving them access to do whatever they please with your data, or you don't use the software. Again, I chose the latter.

There's a similar push with companies and forced arbitration. There are a few groups out there trying to combat this nonsense.

Anyway, I choose to limit my data sharing wherever I can. "They" may already have a ton on me, but that doesn't warrant just throwing in the towel and making a bad problem worse.

Appreciate the level headed response, seriously. Thank you for keeping it civil and not going straight to ad hominem.

We were talking about Ford Pass, you brought up law enforcement, I didn’t move the goalpost, you did.

I understand wanting to keep your “personal” pictures hidden and what not, but what is the problem with data sharing? I understand on the surface it feels like a violation of privacy, but de-personalized data is only useful for advertising.

To be clear, I’m not talking about putting your Gmail password on a sign in your lawn, but how is using Ford Pass gonna hurt you?

I see user data being used for more subtle purposes, companies exchanging your data to target you for $$$$. Although, I used to do penetration testing and used publicly available data to guess peoples passwords and you would be amazed how often I was successful. the lessons here are
- read and know what your agreeing to. so few people even bother, fords is one of the most egregious policies I've seen.... tell me they don't plan on making a buck on your info...
- be aware of and monitor your digital footprint ( do a google search on yourself from time to time) there are services both free and subscription that can track if your information on the web and report whats available, where it came from and if it was sold. There are companies out there that do nothing but buy and sell personal data.
- be Leary of volunteering your personal data, ask yourself is what your getting in return worth it. - data is cumulative, you give one bit of info to one entity and a second bit to someone else and suddenly you have a third entity who has both.

No, I mentioned Google handing over data to police. Keep in mind that has been without subpoena or probable cause. That is a big problem.

It's used for a lot more than advertising. Ford sells that data to firms like Lexis Nexus, who many companies, most notably insurance companies, purchase it from to set things like your policy rates, and whether to even keep you insured based on some algorithm they come up with.

For Adobe, they want unfettered access to all your created content to feed their machine learning algorithm. I have content I've made for clients - who technically own the copyright to that content - that Adobe has no business to use for anything. I'd have to consult an attorney, but do I become liable and potentially sued if one of their items gets used for something outside of their control?

You don't know who is buying what nor what they are using it for.

Those are real problems that go outside of simple advertising.

I guess we'll agree to disagree about who brought law enforcement into this then.

This is from the end-user agreement that I "ok'd" this morning from Ford Pass.

We're talking about Ford Pass, not google, not Lexis Nexus, and not Adobe. So what's the problem with Ford pass? Not trying to be a dick, but you keep moving the goalposts.

Couldn’t care how they monetize my driving data. If you wanna see my dumbass accelerate to 60 and then hit cruise control that’s all on you.

I use it every day, scheduled remote starts and lock / unlock.

There was more in it than that.

For not trying to be a dick, you've succeeded at it quite well with that last line.

Good luck.

This poll is not well designed - there are 6 answers, but only one choice for someone who uses it and 5 choices for someone who doesn’t use it?

I have and use the FordPass app, but I don’t use it “Daily, or Almost Daily” as choice #1 says. I use it maybe once to twice a week, to lock my doors if I forget if I did, or occasionally check my range or recall where I parked.

It would be helpful if the vehicle status page gave more information than range and “Parked”. Like how about a status of the door locks, and status of windows are opened or not, interior air temp, tire pressure, odometer. @Ford Motor Company there is a ton of data available on CAN, so why not provide this in the app?

If the option were given, my vote on this poll would be #7 “Yes, a few times a month.”

I leave a key fob in the car. So the only way to lock/unlock is with the gas door mounted keypad, or with the app. I try to primarily use the app so as to save the batteries in the keypad.

And anytime I think I might want a little bit of heat in the car I remote start with the app.

I use the Cadillac app daily because it is a decent app. Ford, not so much.
