Less than 8,000 miles on my 2023 Badlands and had to put it in for warranty repair on cam phasers. Itā€™s been rattling for a little while during cold starts 8+hours since last start. Recently started rattling after 4+hours of sitting. The service department hasnā€™t done a diagnostic yet but, Iā€™m quite sure I know the issue.

My understanding is this is a common Ecoboost issue (for several years) where the cam phasers donā€™t immediately ā€œlockā€ into proper position during cold starts. You will know you have this problem if you have a diesel type of rattle during cold starts(see video in my original post-turn up volume) I have the 2.7 engine
Had the same issue with my 2019 F150.
how many miles did you have when it started? Did you have them replaced?

This is my first Ford. Love the way she rides but, this is very disappointing.

I just dropped mine off yesterday, same sound at 6k miles.

Have you gotten yours back yet? They won't say how long it will take for mine

Yeah, took about 4 days. Got it back (no more start up rattling)drove it approximately 1,000 miles and the timing chain broke. Had to have motor replacement.
they didnā€™t even offer any extended warranty on the new motor.
I think Iā€™m still in shock about the whole ordeal. Seems to run well now.

I also dropped off mine yesterday (2023 2.7L Badlands 2dr). The issue developed when I had about 500 miles on the odometer. They said it's a big job as the engine needs to come out to replace the cam phasers.

Is it possible to have this issue with the 2.3L? I've got a 23 BL and when I cold start it, it sounds rough. Later on walking around it on a trail, it sounded like the sewing machine purr I'm used to. I've heard of a waste gate issue that makes a noise too. Just wondering if I should be concerned.

Same, at just under 20K miles in the case of my '19 F150. In addition, mine would idle roughly and occasionally stall at stoplights.

Total BS that phasers are still an issue.

I had a Ford tech tell me a few days ago that he would lock the phasers advanced on 3 valve F-150s and they ran great!
No rattle!
Your mileage will vary!

Ford is bad at cam phasers. The problem is mostly the 3.5, but some 2.7ā€™s have the issue as well. However itā€™s no where near as often as the bigger motor.
