I posted that just for reference. Supposedly, the 3.0 is based on the 2.7 so it may be the same.

This is the parts list for all that needs to be changed when replacing the cam phasers.....on the 2.7 & 3.0

Good luck with engine removal.
I’ve got mine perfect so i guess that leaves me to be the test monkey to see if i can wear out the belt in the sump.

I was able to put my hands on a new Ford oil sump belt. This is the 70k mile belt everyone seems to be worried about with regard to durability and use with nano lubricants to solve the cam phaser issues.

I’ll be watching to see if any issues come up. My cam phasers are still quiet. Next oil change I will drain all the oil and nano stuff and just use a synthetic oil to see how it holds up.

A timing belt driven oil pump. Genius.

How is the pump driven on the 2.3??? Directly by the crank, as it should be?

Does the cam phaser noise actually hurt anything if left as is ? 2.5 seconds of noise doesn't seem to be worth tearing an engine apart. Hell , the 2.3 in my Ranger made all kinds of noise . The 2.7 so far is much quieter in regard to start up noises, lol.

Are you willing to soak that belt in a pan of the FR3 for a few weeks? Then report back in February?
If it does not degrade in pure FR3 then it will probably hold up in a very diluted mix with engine oil.
At least this seems like it would test it.

I put roughly a 50% mix. I’m also going to add some blow by out of the catch can and cycle it up to 185 degrees. The only thing I can’t simulate is belt tension. That said, it should still be an interesting test.

That does sound like a good test. At least if the magic juice is eating the belt it should show up.

To the other poster…….ford service says that running the engine without lubrication in the in the cam phaser assy during cold start does not harm anything and to go ahead and drive it.

Personally, I love my Bronco and try my best not to drive it without lubrication. Without a solution to the issue, I would eventually sell it.

FWIW it is my understanding that later model F150s with 2.7 are same setup and same issues.

Chain driven.

Little different on the Bronco. It uses a balance shaft/oil pump assembly with a large gear on the crankshaft to spin it.

Interesting. It makes deleting the balancer a little more work.

Yeah for sure. The new updated 2.3 in the mustang uses the same style now also. I believe the Ranger was the first 2.3 released to use this type of pump.
