Update for all y'all knuckle heads and wrenchers.

Finally found a dealer worth a shit and they got my rig in right away after the last place strung me along for 6 months.

Stopped in today and talked with the mech doing the work and he let me get some photos of the open block and a good shot of the cam phasers he's changing out.

Happy to answer any questions.

Out of curiosity, what oil and change interval were you running?

I did all my oil changes with a certified ford dealer I'll have to look at the receipt to be sure and the truck is at the shop... will update you on that.

First interval was at 2500, second was at 5k, (phaser failed at about 6500) and i did one at 10k right before it went in for service.

I don’t think I could describe how upset I am. No vehicle especially a 2023 with less than 3k miles should have an engine problem. Makes me wish I would have never sold my 2015 Ford F150 FX4, it never had a problem. This is the cold start rattle that I’ve read on multiple forums. I can’t imagine keeping a vehicle where they are going to have to take the motor out and fix it 🤦‍♂️ Taking it in next week. Just wow. See attached video.

My 2022 Badlands bronco just started doing the Cam Phaser rattle at about 15K miles. Will this do damage if I drive it until they can do the warranty work ?

In most cases you shouldn’t have any issues continuing to drive it. If the noise changes or get worse then I would stop.

What a Fuck up! With the plant down due to strike it would be nice if they can get all these issues resolved before production starts back up when it does. If they can’t resolve these issues just keep it closed and have us wait another 20+ years for the next Bronco.

Wow, I guess no need to pull the motor out. Mine was done at 5600 miles. Supposedly they did not pull the motor out either. This sucks though so many guys continue to have these phasers fail. So I guess Ford never fixed the problem. So can we expect to have these phasers fail once again after replacing?

This is anecdotal, but... I have put 5k on mine with daily phaser rattle and have had no other issues. The truck has taken everything I have thrown at it with some significant overlanding trips and weekend wheeling. No other problems and no impact on mpg or performance.

After talking to everyone with experience that I can find I have had all but one person tell me that driving it does no other damage. The one guy that said it was bad to drive informed me that it would (could?) warp the camshafts and damage the block. That has not happened... so far.

It is worth noting that the parts ford uses in the re-instal to correct the issue are the exact same part iteration. So the end result of all this brain damage is that the issue could still exist after the "repair" has been completed.

Best of luck, brother.

It is the same part iteration so the possibility that the cam phaser can fail again is possible. The issue is an engenering design flaw in how oil reaches and lubricates these parts.

Cam Phasers replaced at ~4000mi at a $5600 dealer reimbursement cost(on warranty invoice). They had it 16 days.
Now at ~10,000mi we’re calling the dealer to start the process again.

Okay so is there anything we can do to avoid this if it hasn't started yet? Additives maybe?
Just trying to prevent any future issues :(
