What are your thoughts? Not sure if I have ever opened the hood to listen.
Normal or concerning? There is a tic-tic-tic sound from inside the cab when cold. It goes away when warmed up.

It’s currently 46 degrees, no performance issues, 28k miles, 2.3

I believe what you are hearing is the Cam Phasers. Totally “normal” when cold. There a some threads on here about it. Many people have added an additive to oil. The oil seems to drain off…..I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about👍🏼

2.3s don't have phaser issues. This sounds like good ol direct injection.

Same with my 2.3L. At first I wondered if there was something wrong, noisiest engine I've owned, particularly when cold as you mentioned. On the other hand it runs smooth in terms of low shake/vibration, makes nice power, and I'm still getting 20mpg. So I'm happy with the engine, hopefully it stands up over time.
