Next Monday we will head out in my Subaru for a 10-day camping trip in Southern Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. Most of this is planned for high enough altitude that the heat shouldn't be too unbearable, but we are prepared for every extreme from desert heat to snow.

When the Bronco was revealed, I was in CO with my wife, and had just finished crossing Tincup Pass in my Toyota Tacoma, and was planning to do a lot of modifications to the truck to help its capability. But then we saw that the Bronco can come stock with all the stuff I wanted for my truck, so I made a reservation and sold the Tacoma within a few days....
The wait ended up being longer than anticipated, so I ended up lifting my Subaru and adding a custom bumper and rear locker and some bigger, more aggressive tires, and now we are here, overlanding in an AWD station wagon, still waiting. Likely another year or more before I can pick up my BaseManSquatch, so I'm hoping my Subie with 265k miles will keep getting us there....
I'm heading out to spend a week exploring around Silverton CO in a week. Visiting North Rim Grand Canyon and Vermillion Cliffs National Monument on the way. Hope you have a great trip!

I need to stop thinking about my Bronco order and all the gripes folks are coming up with pre-delivery so to get my mind off of it I’m thinking back on some epic road trips. A crazy one I had a few years ago was driving from Kodiak AK (an island) to Pennsylvania. Figured I’d post some vids/pics of that ride. Don’t judge my driving while video taping…I went entire drives with only seeing animals and not other cars. I was driving my 2017 Ford Raptor…Baja mode highly recommended on Yukon roads!

I’ll be in Kenai, AK for 2 weeks starting the 21st. No place like it!

A few years ago a group of us did about 700 miles of UT back roads on the way to Moab, mostly dirt. Almost 3 weeks altogether. Camping most of the time but a couple nights in motels due to rain. We were all in Jeeps, me in my white XJ that the Bronco will be replacing. Drove the XJ from Bakersfield to Price UT, then hit the dirt, lots of nights camping, then Moab for most of a week, then drove back home to Bakersfield. I've driven, built, and raced XJ's for 28 years, but I'm excited for a change to learn a new platform. Planning on doing plenty more exploring in the Bronco. Here's some pics of a really epic exploration and sightseeing trip. BTW, I've planned and organized quite a few off roading trips and events, and wouldn't mind putting together some new Bronco trips...when we all get our Broncos.

XJs are great! My buddy and I flew into Vegas and rented an XJ in Kanab, UT so we could go explore Parashant National Monument on the Arizona strip. We were solo so we stayed off the rougher trails but we still explored plenty yet I could still use another week out there to see what we missed. Fires are allowed and you can camp right at the edge of the Grand Canyon and you will probably see nobody. We camped at Twin Point at the canyon's edge and also up on Mt. Logan in the forest. There's a massive lava flow you can climb around on, too. Highly recommended but go prepared! We used that spare gas early on and I would've loved to have had another 10 gallons. FYI, finding a rental vehicle where off-road travel is supported is surprisingly tough. Xpress Rentals in Kanab condones it and will provide assistance if SHTF.

Nice thread, inspirational! My last truly epic trip was in 1989, I got out of the Navy and rode my BMW motorcycle down Baja, put it on a ferry to Mazatlan, and continued down to Guadalajara, Copper Canyon, Guanajuato...more. 4,000 miles. And the range of that boxer was under 300 miles on a tank if I recall. You just need to plan your gas stops. I may go back and do it again with the Bronco!
