The "death rate" is very significantly skewed. They are only testing the high risk and severe cases. How many are in their home with a cough and fever and not getting tested? Nobody knows. I'd bet that if we had a way to really test everyone in the country, we'd find the rate is a fraction of a percent. Of course this is just a guess, speculation.... The question is how many people that contract it actually get tested?

They quarantined entire cities. That is why it stopped. Italy has already surpassed China in deaths because they didn’t lock it down fast enough and they are old.
Yup. China locked their shit down with an iron fist.

We're not. We have people packing the beaches.

Sorry, but again, the economic fallout from this is SIGNIFICANTLY worse. There are currently less than 200 cases in GA, and last I checked, about 6 deaths. Less than 200 cases in a state with millions of people and the busiest airport in the world, yet the state is completely shut down.
I understand why you believe the economic fallout of shutting things down is worse - you can see it happening around you, it's tangible, you understand it. It's hurting people you care about. The virus doesn't feel like an immediate threat and people are obviously overreacting.

But look at what you wrote - you have the busiest airport in the world. Our ability to see what's happening with COVID19 is time-late. The results of mitigation measures being put in place now won't be apparent for another 2 weeks and by then you'll likely be over 9,000 cases based on observed transmission patterns in China, Italy, Iran, Spain, Germany, and the US. Mild and asymptomatic cases are driving transmission that can't be stopped by "staying home if you feel sick." Until vaccines or other remedies like Chloroquine prove effective and become widely available, spread will continue exponentially unless prevented by travel restrictions and social distancing.

The amount of people that are losing their small businesses (My uncle for example), unemployed, not able to make rent, and not to mention large corporations that are taking a hit like I work for (and therefore will have to start laying people off if this doesn't improve) so vastly outweighs the people that are infected,
Even using the most conservative estimates for basic reproduction number and case fatality rate, Georgia would be looking at deaths in the hundreds of thousands if nothing were done to limit spread. Do you honestly think businesses would just shrug that off? The economy is taking a hit either way and people are going to lose jobs and go bankrupt. Maybe it would have been a good idea to vote for economic, social, and healthcare policies that provide safety nets to ensure the welfare of their populace in exactly this type of situation?

But I guarantee the flu is going to kill exponentially more people and no one's ability to provide for themselves/their families are going to be affected by that.
The flu causes an average of 12,000 to 61,000 deaths per year. I hope you're right, but I suspect you won't be.

your brother's sister's cousin's best friend's acquaintances with degrees aren't going to convince me otherwise.
Of course not, I doubt anything will.

Looks like it's up to 287 as of this post out of 10 million. "A LOT" more!
Do...do you even understand logarithmic growth? There are two outcomes here:
1) Travel restrictions and social distancing work, cases stay low and you're right that COVID19 ends up being NBD in Georgia, making us all very happy
2) People remain skeptical and go back to business as usual, allowing continued spread at the same rate observed in pre-lockdown China and Italy causing cases to explode into the thousands in less than one week.

Just don't call it socialism or half the country won't cash their bailout checks.

You can call it whatever you want. It's money that was already taken from me in the form of taxes. If they're willing to give some of it back without a fight, I'll take it.

You should probably learn what socialism is. It’s not all that hard to figure it out.

Now I know you're just spouting BS. China has had 81k active cases and they have over a billion people. Are you seriously suggesting that a third of our country, conservatively, is going to contract this virus, especially considering how much more prepared we are compared to China where it started? Might want to stop listening to these "experts".

Argues lock-down is hurting the economy more than COVID19.

Points to China, the country that locked-down a city and a province on a scale never before seen in this world, as evidence lock-down isn't necessary because they're larger.

Ignores Italy, the country implementing a far more rigorous lock-down than we are and still seeing surging infections and deaths.

Claims we're more prepared than China while criticizing the "experts."

Me, wondering if you have to try to be that incomprehensibly stupid.

That's great. So far everyone we have presumed positive has gone home to self quarantine. China has already closed the last temporary hospital because it's no longer needed.

You have provided absolutely nothing to back up what you are saying, other than "you know someone". Why don't you do some research and come back and let us know what you found.

And quit buying up all the toilet paper.

Studied infectious diseases in college, BS in Biology, MS in Systems Analysis, wife runs a research lab, and I'm telling you this because I'm far from an expert and I would appreciate it if the folks on here would just turn off Fox News and listen to the people that are.
