Have most of your cars been from American brands? Do you have a preference for American, European, Japanese, or Korean brands?

We have owned 2 Subarus, 3 Volkswagens, 3 Mazdas, 2 Suzukis, 1 Lotus, 2 Cadillacs, 1 Chevy, 1 Mercury, 1 Toyota, 1 Ford, 1 Honda, 1 Mercedes, 1 Hyundai, 1 Oldsmobile. I guess we have a small preference for Japanese cars but we both like my wife’s current VW Golf Sportwagen 5-speed. We are open to all brands, I guess.

This Bronco will be my first new American vehicle I've ever bought, when I was younger I had a few used that turned me off them for close to 40 years. That gap has been a mixture of Japanese and German cars with no issues so when I read about the lack of QC and just basic engineering steps it really has me concerned if I'm making the right choice or not.

The only Japanese cars I’ve owned were 2 Dodge Colts, back in the 70’s. I’ve had a couple Saabs, a Volvo 240 wagon, a couple German Ford’s, Merkur XR4ti and Scorpio, and a Porsche 911S. Domestic cars were a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, a couple Buick wagons (I had 4 kids), and about 12-15 Ford’s, I’ve lost count.

Those Dodge Colts were Mitsubishis, right? My wife drove a 76 Colt to college. One of the worst cars I’ve driven.

Our Mazda Tribute was a Ford and our Toyota Yaris iA is a Mazda.

Yup. My father in law at the time, had to tell me, “You realize, Mitsubishi made the Japanese Zero during WWII.” You’re right about the ‘76, I traded it a couple years later for I think a ‘79 or an ‘80. Ironically, that same F-I-L bought the latter Colt from me and drove it for years 😎.

I don’t trust European vehicles out of warranty, but I like the way they drive. I like Japanese and American vehicles about equally, but I usually go American for trucks and Japanese for cars. I’m not a fan of the drive feel of the Korean cars, they are well made but feel light on the road.

I agree with your assessment. The Germans in particular, seem to over complicate everything. The 911 was a nightmare.

As far as new vehicles, I’ve owned a Mazda, Isuzu, Subaru and multiple Hondas. With the exception of a CRV, all have come off an US assembly line. Some of the Honda’s, like the Ridgeline and Crosstour, I believe we’re on the most American made vehicle list. The Bronco is the first American nameplate I’ve owned (new - my first car ever was a 1974 Buick Century 😂).

I've owned numerous foreign vehicles however any new vehicle purchase has always been from an American automaker and assembled in the US.
