Hi everyone,

I’m not sure what to make of what the dealer is telling me so wanted to get your opinions.

I have a 2024 Sasquatch outer banks. I took my car into the dealership yesterday for a state inspection, oil change, and tire rotation. Have had no issues with my car prior to this. I’m checking out and they told me I passed but would need to be scheduled to come back in because of the leak I’m going to have in my driveway. He asked if I understood what he meant. I said no and he reiterated that I’m going to have a leak in my driveway but they would schedule me next week and that I passed inspection. It was very “wink wink nod nod”. I should’ve pressed him more but I was so thrown off by the whole thing I went with it. They scheduled me for next week and said I wouldn’t have to pay for anything. I have a maintenance/service plan with Ford but they didn’t mention that at all. It wasn’t “no you’ve got the service plan you’re covered”. He said “no you won’t have to pay anything, now you get what I’m saying”. No, I really don’t.

I get home and look at the email confirmation for the appointment that has the following message:
REQUESTED SERVICES

  • PERFORM MULTI-POINT INSPECTION
  • CS: SEES A DRIP IN THE DRIVEWAY

As I said, I don’t have a drip in my driveway but they’re telling me I’m going to now.

Today I called to see what’s going on and they told me I have a small leak in my front differential. It’s slow enough they don’t expect it to cause damage and is safe enough to drive.

Does that make sense? I’m kind of confused how I could not owe money unless they nicked it and aren’t opening up to it. Any advice is appreciated here

Our front pinion seal leaked on both our Broncos. Mine had a slight drip that I saw in the garage. I caught wife's as seepage while I was changing the oil so it hadn't really leaked onto the pavement. So you could just have seepage. But the spy level of code by the service guy is kind of strange....

Is it out of warranty? If not, it's most likely covered. I don't get the whole wink wink; maybe it was just an awkward back and forth. But he most likely saw it when he changed the oil, and maybe he was being coy because it's not something he's supposed to tell you? 🤷‍♂️ I had a pinion leak as well that didn't leave a puddle, but did fling grease all over my front diff. If you have a leaking diff, you want to get that fixed.

I think the wink wink was eluding to them passing the inspection, but they will take care of the leak under warranty. I don’t believe anything with a leak technically would pass inspection. The dealer must have passed it despite the leak and scheduled an appointment to take care of it as to help get you on your way.

I had the leak, replaced pinion seals twice and last week the front diff grenaded. $2,500 part (Under warranty)
Seems to be a lot of those happening from what i see online.

For those of you who are experiencing front or rear differential leaking or seeping, do you do a lot of off roading / rock crawling?

Ugh.

I'm really beginning to wonder who the preferred vendor is for pinion seals at the axle/diff manufacturer(s) for Ford.

I just learned last night that the rear axle pinion seal in my '19 F150 is leaving a spot on the garage floor, with just under 30K on the odometer. I am not amused, as this will be the fourth issue requiring repair with this truck.

F'ing POS...
