The issue is how did water get into the housing. Unless you have a boot problem (you can tear a boot while off roading) or made a mistake upgrading the rack housing, you'll not have an issue. I think this issue really comes down to inexperience in upgrading the rack, however that affected the final outcome.
Thank you, that’s exactly what I think too. I think @NorthShoreBronco said a Ford tech at a dealer told him it would have happened no matter what. I’m pretty sure there was a Bronco there with an unmodified rack and I don’t believe it had any problems.

Didn't realize it came off that way. I guess I view this as the same as the other Youtubers not try to show the actual defect but some other product. I also tend to view youtubers at not real people and I go on the attack.
:poop: happens. Never in history has the ability to document our own rank idiocy then tell everyone about it in detail been possible. There isn't a rulebook for YouTube or influencing (I cringe saying it!), but I am glad it came after my days in film school.

As a recovering stupid person, I just hope not to prove I am every day... lol Luckily my mouth is big enough to fit my foot, shoe and all! lol

Sorry @NorthShoreBronco i just re-read the post I was referring to and the tech said the rack was probably no good anymore after going for a swim. I definitely agree with that!

We drove through the same places. I went off on my own plowing through some super deep snow having fun. @Off The Grind didn't join me there. There were no water crossings for either of us. I had/have zero issues with my stock Hoss 2.0 rack.

Tensions are pretty high so at the risk of getting my head chewed off, I’m still going to ask: @LanceIto did you drive through the same places (or at least enough places to get water into your rack) as @Off The Grind? I believe you’re still running a stock rack? So I’m just trying to figure out if I have a new problem to worry about with my steering rack. This isn’t Ford’s first steering rack (by a long shot) so I think they’ve seen conditions like this before on other vehicles.

@NorthShoreBronco is also a Rough Country sponsored, lets not look past his person involvement and some Rough Country Tie Rods in said video that is being shown here for views. So me being accused of being an Icon lover is a bit much, I only run their tie rods I paid for. I will admit really like @Dusty videos and he is the reason I bought a bronco (his video of a 2 door on 35s wheeling before he had Icon ties).

Post like this are why I am in here.

I completely agree.
Hey! YouTubers are people too you know!

And the only involvement I had in that is to suggest taking it apart and cleaning it out with brake cleaner and then penetrating fluid until he decided what to do next. I had showed him my Boots on my RC rods to compare to his boots. He bought that all on his own. Anyways, that's all I'm saying about that.

Thank you for clarifying that @Lancelto
I hope that puts anyone’s mind to rest if they were concerned about it. I think our steering racks aren’t the greatest but they’re nowhere as bad as people make them out to be

I agree. And I am lifted on 37 KO2s. Having said that, the factory Hoss 3.0 is going on this spring before I tackle the Rubicon in July. I now guess I am adding checking the rear control arm mounts for cracking. 😬😳😰🥴🤔🤮

Good info, I have this problem right now. I actually have the correct boots but when I had my lift installed with icon tie rods the installer didn’t put any clamps on the boots. I was unaware of this until I went to drive my truck one cold morning and the rack was completely frozen until it warmed up. I should have checked this knowing that the shop that installed these parts along with my lift pretty much installed everything wrong! Now I’ll have to see how long it’s going to take to get a new rack and what rack should I get.

I’m new to the Ford/Bronco world but have been off-roading and overlanding since it was called camping offgrid. When I saw the video I cringed because I know the stress of being broken down. I don’t get on forums much due to the kind of negative bs here. It really is about learning from experience. The fact that he did the install himself is a good thing. He knew enough to question the part but trusted a well respected company to give him the correct parts. It was obvious in the video the clamp portion of the boot was nonexistent. If the Ford part came that way and a rack froze up I’m quite sure you’d all be whining about a full rack replacement. That’s what should be happening here. @Off The Grind has been more than understanding about Icons lack of qc. If the company’s worth a damn they should replace all of it. All you haters nit picking things that were done or said claiming to know what you would have done before or during are missing the point of off grid camping. Anyone doing anything rugged wanting to build up their rigs should know how to do it themselves so when something goes wrong you have some sense on why and how to fix it. Good on him for doing the work.
I personally think his vids are great to watch and of course there’s some product repping going on. I doubt he’s getting anything near worth the work it takes to create it all as it were. Some of you YouTube police are gonna have your hands full commenting on every title that has a hint of click bait, news flash tho, there’s at least a few other offenders. Good luck.

First ill say I like OTG's videos, that being said if he still has the original offending boot Id take the inner and outer apart and id slip the boot off then use the inner to push back through the boot but go at a slight angle, I'm betting the lip you don't have is just got pushed inside during assembly. Secondly your I see that you're buddy had a diesel heater straped to the side of his vehicle that would have worked well to melt any ice. Anyway best of luck
