I wanted to post to this thread because it is the top google result on this topic even though it's a year old. I am also a gopro noob and found things to be not as straight forward as you would think they would be.
I purchased an Akaso V50X camera ($100 on Bestbuy of Amazon, shoots in 4k). It came with several mounting pieces, however none of them would mount directly to the bronco.
I went to home depot and purchased the following (They were about $2.50 each):
I can confirm the mount in the dash accepts 1/4-20. Also, it is deep beyond the 3/4" length that I got. The neoprene washers came in very handy because initially the mount did not face forward while fully seated. After adding the washer, that issue was resolved.
And finally the finished product:
I will post a follow up after I actually get some video. I'm headed to AOAA for their 101 course this weekend, which is why I purchased the camera.
