There's another spot for this, backside of the third brake light (on bracket above spare tire), facing forward. Hidden till you need it ;>).

But why? Most people "hide" them because they look like crap but want to access quickly in a convenient location (inside fuel door).

Are you reaching around behind the spare to side eye and press the buttons? PLEASE post pics of your install suggestion.

Any idea on the battery lifespan?

Never in all my years selling them have I ever had someone needing a battery.
