So I’ve got a bug up my ass right now that is saying I want a snorkel… I’ve seen the thread on someone installing the OEM Everglades on a 2.7 but my problem with it is the price. Very steep but I understand it.

Anyone done the IAG? I’ve seen a picture of someone who installed it on a 2d heritage and it looks great.
If anyone has, how’s it holding up? Function well? Regrets?

Why? Just curious why you need or want one.

Isn't a snorkel on a Bronco fundamentally flawed in that you will typically have shorted out your alternator before you even need one? :)

I wonder if there is a benefit in really dusty areas that you get the air intake up above some of the dust? I agree you shouldn’t have your Bronco in water deep enough to need a snorkel. The problem I have with them and it’s just me is that I always relate them to an overprepared Toyota mall crawler. But that’s my hangup.

Yep especially with the 2.7 (I have that.) I avoid water, especially deep water. No desire to lose a vehicle like that

You can flip what side is the intake on the IAG/Ford OEM intake. That’s the smaller reason I want it

I have a snorkel not to go submarining in the water holes but because if you go splashing around, a lot of water gets into the stock intake. Dust and mud easily get in there to clog it up. My filter got soaked and stalled the motor before my snorkel.

The alternator thing has been debunked numerous times. I have seen a 2.3 lose its alternator while mine was fine. They really aren't that different in height.

This picture is of the filter after a really dusty run here in FL before the snorkel. That stock inlet sucks in everything.

There is no "up above the dust". I regularly ride my motorcycles in dusty areas and I'm rarely the one in front in our small group. I can stand up anytime I want to "get out of the dust", but it almost never makes any difference at all. The only thing that works most of the time is hanging back far enough that most of it has settled or moved off to the side. But being two or three feet higher makes very little difference.

If you want it for looks, that’s fine. The most sensible take on its use case I ever read is from some old-school Aussie outback site, saying it was intended less for water and more for dust, with the screen flipped to the back. Also in heavy snow/sleet, flipped to the back.

Though @killaz05 , he’s lived the water thing, and Ford put the water dump in their housing because of that. I‘ve been high water maybe twice, pushing a wake from the grille, and I can see how water can get up there into the filter. With steady speed and all my under armor, water didn’t flood the engine & alternator either.

Yep that’s how I intend to use it if I do end up doing it. I like that you can run them backwards. I have no interest in fording feet of water. Just no desire to lose a vehicle in a hole or deal with cleaning

I’m kind of on a rant tonight. For everyone that says don’t add a snorkel because of the alternator issue. I just don’t get your logic. Alternator is like 300 bucks, engine is probably 20k. It only takes one mistake to hydro lock your engine. Snorkel doesn’t make you a submarine, it is insurance to protect your engine. I can swap an altinator, starter or whatever else on the trail. I can’t swap a motor.

I've run a dorkel on my Land Cruiser for about 20 years now, and almost 10 on the Power Wagon. The biggest advantage other than water fording, is cooler intake temps which results in a tad bit better MPG (solid 1 on the Land Cruiser) especially here in AZ desert summers. ECM doesn't pull back timing as much. Not sure on the Bronco if there would be a benefit.

You can buy pre-filter foam socks that are oiled to put on the ram head intakes which I've done on long non-solo trips. They do get dirty.

Water doesn't harm the alternator...
It's the abrasive slurry of muddy water that'll kill it

My K&M filter has stayed pretty clean since I added a filter to my stock EG snorkel. I also rotate the intake to the back when I am running dusty MT roads, mostly summer. The combination of both has proven to be a great solution for some of the issues mentioned above. I am really happy with the EG at 26K.
