Okay time for another wrinkle..... WHY are you guys/gals waiting for seconds or minutes for a cool down???? WHY do you not wait until your engine temp hits X degrees???

Just curious how you can tell temperature cool down with time.

I typically shut mine off when my coolant temp hits 187.... just a random number I selected for no reason at all.... Seriously.

Actually it is a number that I can remember. Guess it has something to do with penal code numbers I have heard.

no but they do have electric auxiliary coolant pumps.. which is what I was talking about.

I admit I had no clue it existed. It would definitely circulate coolant while the engine is temporarily cut off at a stop light, which makes sense to keep the climate control happy. Does it circulate coolant through the turbo after final shut down? I’ve never heard it run.

I don’t normally have a display where I can see actual coolant temp. Just … 4 bars, which never changes once it gets warm.

If you mean the oil temp - that number is wild, inferred based on calculations not an actual sensor, and I don’t put a lot of stock in it as a meaningful value - other than if I see it do something unusual.

You are right... I meant (engine) oil temp... and Like you say... it is wildly inferred. But it is the only option I have to measure temperature at this time. (see what I did there?)

I don't know, just seems like something better than measuring temperature wildly by time....

What’s the change I’m hearing? The engine gets significantly quieter after idling for a minute.

I know exasctly what you're talking about, I think. It's almost like the injectors get a lot quieter, right? My thought was that it was the port injectors shutting off after the engine is up to temp and switching to only direct-injection.
