Sit down, folks. This is going the be the most professional “Mod log” of all time.

first you gather tools such as a Jack, Jack stand, 21mm socket, impact, ratchet, hammer, 19mm wrench (3/4 will work in a pinch) and if you are like me, an adjustable wrench to cut down on trips back to the box in confusion and scorn from the old guy neighbor who can spot the difference between a 1/2” and 13mm bolt head from 100 yards.
A rolly-stool and calipers are optional.

You take the chrome shiny acorns off of the wheel. Do NOT yeet them anywhere, they will be reused.

Then behind it is more shiny round stuff and other things not as round and not as shiny.

You take your boppy club pictured below

And give ‘Er a few good whacks like you mean it here. No pickle fork needed, as
I never saw a single pickle under there the whole dang time.

Above you will also see the tie Rod is out, loosened (do not move the jam nut).
Measure with a stick, a piece of twine, or preferably, calipers. Get the depth of the jam nut from the end.

put the steel sleeve thingy on there to the same depth.

reinstall your tie rod, making sure not to move that sleeve. Much steel! Moar robust! Many anti-seize on the inside of the sleeve.

Instructions suggest using a torque wrench on the Tie Rod nut to 46 ft lbs. As my professional opinion, I concur.

reinstall your wheel, pretty side out, put the chrome acorns back on there.
Suggested professional alignment after. That’s what the pros would say here to keep them out of trouble if yer tires wear out afterwards.

I was with you until the "whack it with a mallet" part. What exactly am I whacking? I mean literally which surface of which part should the surface of the mallet be hitting?

He's got an arrow pointed to it, standard way to disconnect a tie rod.

Arrow. Whack it with intent, but not Chris Brown level.
And I omitted the step where you remove the 21mm nut on the bottom side.
if you don’t remove it first, you’ll be there all day, like whack-a-mole on Roids and never make any progress.

Right, I see the arrow and I see the direction, but I don't know where I'm whacking (I've never messed with a tie rod). I assume the side edge where the green arrow points? I ask because I've learned the hard way that whacking things the wrong way can lead to big problems.

No, the part the tie Rod slips into. At the far right end of the arrow.

Ah, so this is what I'm banging on:

Affirmative. Hit it a couple times and the tie Rod will pop loose.
The pickle fork removal tools just end up mangling the boot most of the time.
This way works well, especially on new parts like ours.

Always nice having a detailed writeup, but......do you have any more pics you're willing to share of your grill? I always felt like it should of came from factory like that to look more like the first gens.

Sure!
Painted the whole thing Galaxy Grey, taped off and painted the red outer portion.
Then I taped that off and used an airbrush to apply some transparent black around the edges as a drop-shadow to give it more 3D effect and depth.
3 coats of clear on top of all.

Interesting write up. I've always loosened the lock nut rather than going right at the tie-rod end.

I would personally suggest that anyone doing this also take initial external measurement and count the turns required to remove tie-rod as backup/confirmation.

Here, once installed, the point of reference for the initial measurement is not visible, and I would personally prefer being able to confirm that nothing was accidental moved, after assembly is complete.

Love the body colored outer portion. That's what I have had imagined in my head for a long time.
