So, I had one of these keyless entry pads on my 2000 Expedition, but with key fobs today, what's the point of the keyless entry pad?
I use it for when I go surfing. I can't take a key fob in the water so I have to lock my keys in the car. The keypad allows me to do that.

Ok, I’m confused. Doesn’t the fuel door lock when you lock the vehicle?
Door is push in to pop open, no lock or latch to pop from the inside.

I just did this to mine with a plastic trim removal tool in just a few min. I had to replace 1 side of the 3M tape.

In the Olden Days, at the beginning of time, we used to have magnetic boxes in which to hide a spare key somewhere on the frame. Because, humans lock themselves out of cars by locking the key (fob) in the car. Or losing the keys. This is the successor to that. Also, if Ive got the keys on the beach, and my son wants something from the car, he can get it without a key. Ive had one on all my Ford's for 20 or more years

How long do the batteries last? The manual says it can't be replaced.

I put mine on the back above the Handel, it’s handy when walking up to it after hunting or fishing. Everything goes back there any way.
You will have to zoom in to see it, only picture i had on my phone.

Is there a way to order one online and configure it to work with my car if I already have my bronco?

On my BRaptor, I placed it inside the spare… It doesn’t fit in the fuel door as the door is shorter to accommodate the larger fender flares. It is a bit of a tight squeeze to get your hands inside the spare, but doable for the limited times I’d use it. Fuel doors do not lock on the Broncos…

You should be able to order one and have it programmed to the vehicle…

I had it on my '02 Ford Explorer and I liked that I could go somewhere and if I didn't want to carry my keys with me, I could just lock them in the car. Then punch in the keypad code to get back in and off I go.
Agreed. I go mountain biking, hiking, just to the store and leave the keys locked inside. Then use the code to gain access. So much better than carrying clucky keys around in a back pocket on a bike where you could lose it on the trail and be really SOL.

I did this at the dealership while it was still on the showroom floor. Then drove it away. That keypad on the side of the bronco is hideous

I'm curious... are people moving their keypad just for aesthetics, or are there other reasons? Mine color matches to my vehicle, so it's barely noticeable (IMO).

I want it as a precaution.
Happened once that a friend got her key in the jeep closed and locked due to wind shutting the door off, then had to break the window to get the car. that happend mid desert.
So I really like the idea of having that keypad hidden, like in the fuel tank door. Thats a great backup solution for me.
