I have a non SAS Outer Banks with an 18” wheel and a P25570R18 tire. Can I go to a taller tire with the same wheel? Aka 33” without issues? Also if that works and I also change the spare does anyone foresee an issue with the spare tire carrier? I no longer have the brake light as I switched to an LED ring.

I put 275/70/18 on my stock OBX wheels and love the look. @Discount Tire was able to get me a set of General Grabbers A/T. Aggressive tread pattern, snow rated, and an important factor to me was load rating to keep some driveability over an "E" load rating tire. Very happy with them so far.

Thanks. I agree the look is outstanding. How are they for noise at highway speed vs stock?

I am looking into seeing if you can put 35’s with a wider tire and if needed a wheel spacers after powder coating the rims all black, they look 100 times better blacked out.

In my opinion there's very little more noise, but I also think that I was "looking" for it also after having them swapped. My wife doesnt even notice it, and is very happy with the ride still since its her daily.

I do like the look of them blacked out and may look into it eventually, budget pending. I wanted to keep the tires inside the fender, or align them just to the flares to keep rocks and dirt off the sides of the vehicle as much as possible. Thats why the size was right for me, over an inch taller and just under an inch wider than factory.

That’s great to hear with the noise. Two other questions. Have to noticed any difference in ride or handling, especially slow turns and did you change the spare as well ? If so any for issues? Thanks again.

BFG All Terrain T/A KO2 275/70/18. Great ride quality and same noise or better than OEM Bridgestone Duelers. I changed the spare as well.

I think the ride is actually a little better, possibly due to the increased sidewall height, but am no expert and just my opinion. They do seem to grab more rocks, but to be expected with the tread pattern over what was on it. I did change the spare and will be doing 5 tire rotations when the time comes. I cant speak to the ride quality of any of the "E" load rating tires versus stock, thats why I went with the General Grabbers. I was cocnerned with ride quality and uncomfortable running an "E" load tire at 30-35 psi consistently. I know folks are doing it, and they can weigh in better than me on that.

I had the same question a month or so ago. The overall outside diameter is not the biggest issue with the stock rims. It is the width of the rim itself.

I went with GY Durtrac tires. I have had them on several trucks/FJ cruiser and even a Jeep. They ride nice and handle the mud and snow etc with ease.

My replies

Here is a few shoots of them installed.

thank you I like the look. Shame Troy got some dings in the rims. But it’s a great excuse to buy new ones.
