Not sure if this is a reference to Stephen King’s “The Gunslinger,” but if it is…niiiiiice!Long live the legend of the great adventurer who dared stare the unforgiving Mojave in the face.
May we all learn the lessons of his journey.
The man with the orange flag stared at the desert.
It stretched past the limits of mortal vision, past the limits of comprehension.
He dared question its might and voracity, outright mocking its lack of emotion or care for any creature that dared oppose it.
He shouted into the expanse "I WILL plant my flag of triumph!"
The wind answered back with a howl.
Then silence.
The silence of desolation, despair, and complete emptiness that lay before him.
The silence of complete beckoning and temptation.
Many before him had tried and failed.
The weary traveler contemplated before taking a single step. Then another.
Sand.
It's coarse, gritty, and it gets everywhere.
Dare he seek the high ground?
