Mods - if this is the wrong place for this so be it, ... but I wanted a wide audience.

Long story short, health forces this question. I'm looking for full-length running boards/steps that are a few inches lower than what I've got. Hopefully, from one of our fine forum sponsors (?)

See pic below, something like this, but lower.

Measured from the ground to the top of the running board:
- Wife's Expy, about 14" not a problem, and a wide door
- My F350, about 16" usually not a problem, and a wide door
- My Bronco, a little over 18", narrow door, frequently a problem

Lowering or selling my beloved "BadFoot" is like, way down at the bottom of the list for me. Let's not go there.

And, if anyone really is interested in the backstory, let me be the one to tell you that 1%-3% of the time, knee replacement surgery goes nothing like they say in the little pamphlet. Sometimes it goes horribly, horribly wrong.

Anyway, with that cheery thought, what say the collective?

since you already like Go Rhino, they have others that do step down a couple inches.....bitch to install, had a buddy 'help'...while I watched....but I'd go with them again apart from that.

Shocked at all the options now! https://thegorhino.com/category/running-boards/

I love that @Mountains2Metal lists this stat on the site. Their stirrups that bolt to factory skids (available on market place for about 100 if not free) are a 5" drop from the door sill.

About to lift and this is important to me as well.

Otherwise you're looking at RSE or Amp.

Thanks, in my case, the way I need to get in the vehicle.... I need something longer than stirrups.

Did I hear fine forum sponsor? ;)

Sorry to hear about your knee troubles, but happy to help with some options on your Bronco.

RealTruck Go Rhino Dominator D1 Side Steps

APS Black Square Tube Drop Style Nerf Bars

RealTruck VoltStep Electric Running Boards

Here are some options that will give you a lower step. Shoot me a PM if you want to go over options and pricing! Happy to help out.

I have the same ones that Turkey does, but if you hit their site, there are MANY options for dropped steps.

Are you handy able to do mods??

Anyway, with that cheery thought, what say the collective?
I would say keep what you have and make some spacers.

All/ most steps install like fords rock sliders. The more door versions should have three bolts going up into the floor pan and three sets of two bolts each going through the doors lower support weld points. For each side of your Bronco

need six spacers x thick plus longer bolts into floor pan

need six flat plates x wide plus a few inches to be able to drill four holes per plate plus new bolts

X equals the amount that you want to lower them.

Made of aluminum so pretty expensive but do hang down low if you add the drop steps:
LoD Armor Lite

There is also a smaller drop step option, and they are removable without tools. FYI, I do not know anyone who has installed these...

There are mechanical rock sliders with motorized steps that open and a lower step folds out. Could be your solution if you go rockcrawling and trails with serious obstacles. Of course, these are more expensive, and now you've got moving parts with an electric motor (or something) which is one more thing which can break down in time. Here's Rock SLide Engineering. The actual step isn't very wide, which may be problem. I also note that the actual rock slide bottom plate (the business side of the setup) is extra.

If it’s a temporary situation - like I ran into with my wife - I threw a small Rubbermaid step stool in the back for her to climb up until her knees healed up. Others have suggested a folding/collapsing step stool with a short piece of rope to snatch it up after use. Way cheaper than modding up your already installed steps. Grab handles can also come in handy as well. Hope that helps.

I do not know all about it, but I know some about it….. I had both my knees done at the same time about a year ago. On my 4 x 4 vehicles I use Amp power steps and on the other vehicle, I use rock slider engineering power steps.

I used ARP steps on my Raptor and they lowerEd my entry by 4 inches, in addition to looking very nice, about $2200.00 plus installation.

I installed these on my 2-door when it was new and really like them. They have scrapes from sliding and bouncing off rocks and no dents.
