I don't get how the heck there're that many different shops making the same thing. Do they really all have their own tooling/molds or are they just different brokers buying from one or two big manufacturers?

They're almost all middlemen as far as I can tell. I've been trying to get some custom things made to my specs and it appears to be the wrong channel for going about that. They have a catalog to sell out of and that's it.

A large remanufacturer across the street has some parts made over there and it was interesting to hear how that goes down. Basically everything has to go through a chinese national. You and I just can't call over and tell them we want 5000 widgets made and here are the prints. Apparently it took some time to establish the relationship before they were able to get to a "good" supplier.

BTW, you might get a surprise bill from UPS for customs, I've had them cover it and then bill me when the supplier didn't roll it into the total.

Yea and there were 17 other things on there at $0.005. I told her to look at it and fix she said she did on her end. Currency translator must have an issue with decimal placement. The other possibility is that this is a scam and I'm out $1,200. Guess we'll see in a couple of months.

Problem is almost everything you own comes from this communist country in one way or another thanks to the idiots that run this country.

I have an engineer friend who has worked with Chinese manufacturers for a company making toothbrushes. He told me the same factory will run off-hours and supply the exact product to the cloners. This is after the orig company supplied the money for making the molds.

Some of these knockoffs literally come off the same line as the OEM product.
