I loved my Xterra. I had a Cayenne Red S with the 6 speed. It constantly surprised me with its capability. The stock clutch is the weak point. Most people who wheel them hard have to replace it around 60k miles. If you take the opportunity to upgrade it at that point, you'll get 150k out of the aftermarket one.

I don't find this very comparable to a Bronco 🤷‍♂️

If I call up Jsport for a lift and armor on my Passport is it same-same?
The Xterra is a 4X4 body on frame SUV with a solid rear axle with a 2 speed transfer case, and in the Pro-4X trim, comes with a rear locking differential. I'm not sure how you assess it's not comparable to the Bronco.

Sounds like a good comparison for a 4Runner though

I thought every “I’m out” post needed to include your reservation date...

Either way, have fun adventuring in your new vehicle!

The title says it all. The high admission price of a new Bronco, along with changing circumstances (read: spousal support), has dashed my plans for a new Bronco. My $100 reservation was quickly refunded - thank you Grainger! I still want something similar, so after looking at the alternatives, I'm now actively searching for a used, but well kept Nissan Xterra Pro-4X. It seems like the perfect fit, with a NA 4.0L V6 (available with a 6 speed manual with clutch start override button) and standard equipment including a rear locker, Bilstien shocks, built in off-road and fog lights, roof rack, full gauges including volt meter and oil pressure, and a 9 speaker Rockford-Fosgate stereo with 6 CD changer. It even has some things I wasn't going to get with the Bronco, like a good sized cargo area with rear seats that fold perfectly flat. And I could have one this week! Maybe in a few years I can find a nice Squatched Bronco coming off lease....

And the camper kit is pretty cool, too!

Why? Would it matter more if I opt out as a day 1 res?

Oh, I forgot, the standard equipment also includes full bash plates....

FYI, the stock Xterra skid plates are worthless. Think several sheets of tin foil pressed together.

The only tranny issues I've read about so far is on 2005-2007 automatics. The issue isn't so much about the transmission, as it is the radiator/transmission cooler getting antifreeze mixed with the transmission fluid, ruining the tranny. If there is something else, let me know!

I'd say it's directly comparable to a Black Diamond Bronco, with the locker and 32" tires. Except that you get the high-end stereo, roof rack and off-road lights as part of the package, no need to order a $$$ separate mid or high package (or ala carte for the roof rack) to get them. And you can put 33"s on it with a no cost, 5 minute mod.
